Southwark Council Parking Enforcement Corrupt Practices

Today, Southwark Council Parking Enforcement is illegally giving parking tickets to cars that are legally parked on Stradella Road at the end near to Halfmoon Lane.

Firstly, there are several bays at the beginning of Stradella Road that have no parking suspension sign.

Cars are parking legally and are being given parking tickets illegally.

Southwark Council Parking Enforcement officers have been made aware of this illegal behaviour and shown that they are no parking suspension notices in those bays and or in that part of the road; however, they continue to issues tickets illegally and cars continue to park in those bays unaware that they are (apparently) suspended because there is no notice to say such, in fact there is a notice to say 1hr parking between 8:30am and 6pm.

Further up Stradella Road, approximately 250+ metres, several cars were legally parked and there were no parking suspension notices; however, they were illegally issued with parking tickets.

Subsequently, an agent for Southwark Council was putting up parking suspension notices in this part of the road at around 1:30-2pm but only after the legally parked cars had been illegally issued with illegal car parking tickets to try and make it look legal.

This is clearly a deeply corrupt scam being undertaken by Southwark Council and its agents.

It has been separately reported to the police, local councillors and the local MP.

It will also be reported to Southwark Council, however, they are uncontactable until next week.

Similar corrupt and illegal behaviour by Southwark Parking enforcement officers was also clearly identified in Halfmoon Lane.

It is quite likely to have occurred in other adjacent roads.

Photographic and video evidence of these corrupt practices have been provided to the police to investigate and root out corruption in Southwark Council.

You might leave copies of this post on the windscreens of any cars that you think may have been issued with parking tickets before you saw the suspension notices being put up.  Include some contact details -- at least your forum username -- so that the owners can contact you if they wish to dispute the tickets on the ground of unlawfulness.

Eventual feedback here -- presumably this would be evidence of a cancellation of any such tickets  -- would be very welcome.

Were you affected or are you fighting the battle of others?  If penalties are wrongly given then the owners will surely have appropriate evidence to appeal.  And if this is a systematic error then it will not continue.  I doubt if there are masterminds plotting this.

Whilst I agree this is unlikely to be some plot, individual drivers may not have evidence of the time parking suspension notices were put up.

I think the issue is that tickets were issued before the suspension signs went up. The owners had no reason not to park there. Also, on returning they may think that maybe they DID miss the signs (I think that is what I would do) . So I thank the OP for the sharing the information.

I believe there were yellow signs temporarily put up two weeks ago showing that Stradella and other Southwark roads were being made 'resident only' parking yesterday and today, as part of the festivals stuff.  This advises everyone of the temporary order that the Borough made.

However, most of the signs seems to have vanished during the previous two weekends.   So it is a moot point what happens when parking tickets are challenged (as they surely will be, and I presume the OP will be doing).

Another thing to add to the 'lessons learned' list when/if the two Boroughs review "how well things went" with the festivals this time....

Same thing on Brockwell Park Gardens during the Hoopla festival last week, which is technically Lambeth. I have lodged my challenge with videos/photos.

I am giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. I think the people who put up the suspension signs (or do not put them up in places) understand the law but the actual patrolling wardens are not competent.

Is there there additional parking restrictions because of the country show? They apply every year: https://southlondon.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/london-borough-of-lambeth-temporary-traffic-and-parking-restrictions-brockwell-park.pdf

Yep this is the one.

Looks like it's from the 30th of May to the 16th. Issued a week before going into practice.

So deep. So corrupt. We need to see how deep the rot goes. When we inevitibly found out what scoundrel is behind this unlawful travesty we should campaign for them to be beheaded. How dare they.

I don't understand why/how Stradella Road is included in the Lambeth traffic order (in both Schedules 1 and 2) referred to above while it's shown as in Dulwich Village ward and within Southwark boundary on the Southwark map at https://geomap.southwark.gov.uk/connect/analyst/mobile/#/main.  Can anyone help explain?

It's to do with the parking restrictions relating to an event at Brockwell Park, which is in Lambeth,  The restrictions are subject to permission, where applicable, from Southwark Council and TFL.

OP is wrapped in such hyperbole that it takes a couple of reads to extract the key point, which is exactly what you say it is.

Obviously if the tickets were issued before the signs went up then they should be reversed. If OP is really concerned about it then they should also email the parking enforcement team to ask them to cancel those tickets themselves instead of waiting for the drivers to challenge them.

My first action would be of course to go onto social media.  Or maybe not 😉

    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
    • Rose who used to run Grace and Favour has a wonderful shop called Butlers Emporium on george Street in Hastings You'll find it on instagram as butlersemporium3
    • And from what I remember, she eventually cut the tea shop for a similar  reason to chandelier.  Chariot style buggies
    • Oh yes, it could have been about there, I can't remember exactly. At one point there seemed to be a load of pizza places opening on NCR. I vaguely remember the one we used to use was put out of business by another one which opened. Wasn't Grace and Favour's food offering more of a tea shop at the back of the actual shop? If memory serves the owner, whose name escapes me now, was one of the earliest people I know to move to Hastings. Which must now be crammed with South East Londoners 🤣
