two new free cycle rides Sat June 14

Two rides for June 14th. A short ride from Dulwich including 2 places that really surprised me when first seen and a long ride heading north up the River Lea.
When exploring on Healthy rides you occasionally come across something very surprising. Two of the most amazing were Brixton Mill and Ebony Horse Club. In the middle of houses and next to a prison, a fully functioning windmill. In a small park near Loughborough Junction, a riding stables with people circulating on horses. These 2 locations have been incorporated into this gentle 9½ mile circuit along with several parks and a common. Start will be Dulwich Park Café (Clock Café, middle of the park) at 10am. Back at 12.30pm. Route up Greendale, Ruskin Park, Wyck Gardens (Ebony Horse Club), Clapham Common, Blenheim Gardens Estate (Brixton Windmill), Brockwell Park, Belair Park and back to Dulwich Park. A good one on which to bring a friend.
Information form Ride Leader Jean. It is a long ride (22 Miles) so bring drinks and snacks.
Starting from London Bridge (Gateway Needle, south side), we take Tooley Street to Tower Bridge, where we cross the river and follow the CS2 through Whitechapel and Mile End, to Bow, where we access the Lea Navigation path, following it up to Hackney Marshes, at Markfield Park, where we stop for a break. On the return trip, we cross briefly to the other side of the canal, coming down through Hackney Marshes, and then we retrace our steps, passing by Bow and continuing to the Limehouse Cut, which brings us down to Limehouse, from where we return to Tower Bridge, and London Bridge.
Depart: London Bridge 9.30am.    Return: 2.30pm
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.

All revenue raised helps us pay our contributors and fund the professional journalism and high quality photography, illustration and design that are the hallmarks of the titles we produce. The more money we have, the more stories we can publish and every single page of advertising is thoughtfully matched with a page of high quality and engaging editorial  (“all killer, no filler” to quote one reader), which increases reader “dwell time” and ensures that people linger on each spread for longer. We personally hand deliver every single copy of the newspaper and we have a diverse range of stockists to ensure we reach the whole of the community, not just one part of it.  You can find us in all sorts of places, from laundrettes, libraries and hair salons to shops, pubs and cafes. We believe local publications should truly reflect the areas they cover and we strive to represent the incredible diversity of south-east London on our pages.  We invest a huge amount of time and effort in seeking out stories that no one else has written about and sharing them with our readers. We aim to appeal to everyone in the area; those who have lived here their whole lives and those who have just arrived. We have readers of all ages – from 9 to 99!
    • I'm not missing the point, I don't agree that people must wear special clothes when walking or cycling. There is no law on this and despite the highway code suggesting clothing that cyclists and pedestrians might consider wearing after dark, I doubt you wear a reflective sash when walking in the evening. It's also a fact that a bicycle and a moped are different things. It's not unreasonable to point out where someone conflates the two. What is 'disagreeable', is Penguin68 suggesting that we should have no sympathy for someone hit by a careless driver, if they weren't wearing particular clothes that he deems appropriate. People should obviously have lights on their bikes when travelling after dark.

    • you're missing the point and come across as just being disagreeable.   I'm therefore just going to close this - as it;'s not a debate or an argument   DRIVERS  - please pay extra care as there are cyclists who are very low visibility and without lights or suitable clothing CYCLISTS - Put lights on your bike - front and back - and reflective strips at the very least. Consider other road users and pedestrians.  EVERYONE - Be safe
