You could buy some cork floor tiles and use them. Either put them directly on the wall or use a piece of wood cut to size.

Sue, One of the hairdressers who called me had spent a fair amount of time getting all his clients’ details from the database before he gave his notice and left. He wouldn’t have been able to do it afterwards.

That hasn't been my experience, but admittedly it was a long time ago. For example, I had an excellent cutter at one of the central London Charles Worthington salons, I think it was in Covent Garden. I would be highly surprised if anyone who worked there was allowed to keep their own book of clients' details, because the salon itself obviously wants to keep their clients. I can't remember the exact details, but if memory serves she left, and when I asked where she had gone I was told she had "gone travelling", which may or may not have been true (I am not someone who keeps up a constant conversation with whoever is cutting my hair, which may be a surprise to those who know me 😂). The next person I had there made an absolute dog's breakfast of my cut, to such an extent that I had to have several (free) cuts from somebody else at that salon to bring it back to some semblance of what it was supposed to look like.
