I need to go to Asda in the Old Kent Road tomorrow.

Theoretically I can get a 78 or 363 bus, but it looks as if the bus stop at East Dulwich Road/Peckham Rye may be closed. I don't know why, but I assume it may be due to gas or water works.

Does anybody know if it is just this bus stop, or are other bus stops (or the routes) affected?

I don't want to get a nasty surprise tomorrow, as I have an appointment, so it's time critical.

Sue, Sue, Sue

Yes the bus stop at what was The Kings Arms I believe remains closed,

However the stops at the Heaton Arms (no youngster here) is open.

Easiest way is a 63 or 363 to Peckham Hill street and change for the 78 which takes you directly to the front door or as good as.

Thanks jazzer, jazzer,  Jazzer 😀

I don't know either of those pubs, believe it or not, so I will google the Heaton Arms, thank you (and thanks for the tip about the easiest way!)

ETA: Well, I googled it and apparently it was demolished in 2005 🤣 but I guess it was somewhere near Heaton Road.

ETA again: It looks like I can get a 63 or 363 from the stop near the end of Barry Road, so assuming that's open that would be easier.

I remember both, many, many years ago.

And the Kings Arms was at the junction of East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye, it was huge and was converted to flats. Oh those were the days.

Ah, I  remember the Kings Arms I think, though had forgotten the name.

Wasn't it some kind of club?

You have a 'time critical appointment' at Asda? Righto.

There is an NHS van in the Asda car park which is a local centre for lung cancer screenings.

I'm an ex smoker (haven't smoked for decades but still at risk).

My appointment was at 2pm.

Any other sarcastic comments? Do feel free 🙄

NHS subcontractors frequently use supermarket parking areas for CT and other screening. Easy to get to and park. They've done the same at Dog Kennel Hill in the past. Makes a lot of sense. And they ram in lots of timed appointments, so time critical is precisely right.

Yes, the appointments were scheduled for every ten minutes.

And there is no waiting area at all this time  (sometimes for medical checks there they have a very small area inside with 3 or 4 seats).

If you have come by public transport, you have to sit on the steps up to the van if you are early,  which isn't pleasant in very hot sun or pouring rain, or else wander round Asda (there's no cafe in Asda, despite it supposedly being a superstore).

It's one in, one out.

I don't know what happens if you are late, but I doubt they would hold up everybody who came after you in order to fit you in.

There was someone immediately before me and someone immediately after me.

I too had an appointment at ASDA last week and walked to the bus stop at Nigel Road where I caught a 78 all the way through.

That's what I did in the end , so thank you for that.

I gritted my teeth and got some exercise. It wasn't as bad as I expected 😀

I did get a 37 from Nigel Road back to Goose Green on the return journey, though!

What a brilliant idea. I hope it went OK, Sue.

Thanks! I'll find out in a few weeks when I get the results!

It was one of those disconcerting things where a disembodied voice keeps booming  at you to breathe in and hold it, then breathe normally.

Apart from that it was OK, all completely painless.

I imagine there will be quite a few people going from ED, though I presume it covers the whole Southwark area

    • I’m currently conducting exploratory research into menstrual health education in UK secondary schools and would really value the insight of PSHE leads, Heads of Year, or pastoral staff.    The research aims to understand:   How the menstrual cycle is currently taught within the RSHE framework Where schools feel confident — and where there may be gaps Whether students are taught and  asking questions around the full menstrual cycle, symptoms, wellbeing and conditions such as PMS/PMDD or endometriosis How schools support students in feeling empowered to understand their bodies and seek help appropriately Whether education around nutrition, lifestyle, and menstrual wellbeing is currently addressed   The long-term goal is to explore whether there is a need for additional, age-appropriate, medically informed support on the menstrual cycle.  I’m not selling a programme and there is no obligation beyond a 30 minute informal chat online (Unpaid). All conversations will be confidential and used only to inform the research. If you work in a UK secondary school and would be willing to share your perspective, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. Please comment below or email me [email protected] Thank you for the vital work you do. Best wishes, Emma
