Hey fellow cat owners!

Was hoping that you would consider putting collars with bells on your outside cats?

I’ve wee fledglings in a nest and at the moment I’m defending them against an orange and white dude (I call him Trump) and his nemesis, a lovely Tuxedo cat (I call Elon)… they are quite the double act in my back garden!!!!

It would give the wee ones a bit of a better chance if a bell could announce their approach.

And as a feline owner myself, I know cats will be cats, but every little helps even the odds.

many thanks.

I completely agree.

A cat with a bell comes into my garden and sits patiently beneath the bird feeders.

Sometimes I hear the bell first and can chase him out before he gets there, and hopefully birds can also hear the bell (but only when he's actually moving).

This has got worse since prickly rambling rose stems were removed from fences at the back of the garden. I'm looking at what cat deterrents I can put there.

You have probably done this already, but if not you might want to look at ways you can try to stop the cats getting into your garden  in the first place?

It's very difficult. I love both cats and birds, but  as you say, cats will be cats.

So important to give them the best chance.

You can buy bells on Amazon

I’ve bought the cheap collars on amazon and find they fray quickly and aren’t great quality. The bells don’t really make a noise either.

I’ve also bought a posh one from Pets Couture and it’s absolutely beautiful, got a proper bell and still looks like new after nearly a whole year! Definitely worth the money

As much as I support the protection of wildlife from predators its incredibly important not to don a feline chum with any old collar.

Collars can be a hazard to cats. They can easily get caught on things resulting in choking.

If cat owners really must use a collar, consider one that is quick release or of the paper kind (yes I know they wont last long).

    • Ok thanks, I will ask the GP. Sorry, I know I post on here a lot/too much, but I'm not going into my medical issues on here. If I could find the information I need online, I obviously wouldn't need to see a dietician! Thanks for trying to help, though x
    • We had two air con units fitted with the heat pump mounted on the back wall.  one indoor unit in the loft and one in the kitchen/diner.  would not have been able to sleep in this heat in the loft without it - absolutely love it.  We have solar+batteries so with the amount of sun we having then its covering the cost of the aircon.  we used Progas Heating Services Ltd, 176 Sydenham road, London, SE26 5JZ Tel: 020 8 676 0101 [email protected] they were brilliant.  quick and straightforward to deal with.  highly recommend.  cost was ballpark £5k all in.  was quite a bit of chasing pipework into the walls and running pipes from the heat pump to the 2 units.
    • Probably a daft question but does Chacarero not sell chacareros?
