GARDEN DESIGN SHORT COURSE - 8-week Monday evening course in Herne Hill

22nd Sep - 24th Nov 2025*

(*held over 10 weeks with 2-week half term break on 20th & 27th Oct)

Whether you're considering a career change, working as a gardener and wanting to add to your skills, planning your own garden or just interested in dipping your toe into Garden Design to see what it's all about, our Garden Design evening short course will introduce you to the main elements of Garden Design and take you through the basic stages of designing a garden from initial appraisal to a useable plan.

A friendly and informal course which is informative, practical and full of useful details and techniques, the course is a great way to learn the basic principles in order to design your own garden or your clients’ gardens, or to try out Garden Design before committing to a full diploma.  The course covers:

  • Garden design principles and styles
  • Equipment and materials for getting started in Garden Design
  • Key techniques and skills (eg appraisal, measuring, drawing to scale)
  • Coming up with ideas and concepts for a garden
  • Creating a garden design on paper
  • Choosing materials and plants
  • Making sustainable choices

You’ll work on an actual garden as a case study during the course.  It can be your own garden, a friend or client’s garden or a community or public garden (or we can provide a case study garden for you to work on). Over the course of the term you’ll come up with a set of basic scale plans for that garden and work on a design for it.

Adults only; open to all levels; classes take place in Herne Hill Station Hall, Railton Rd, SE24

    • Hello all,  If your child goes to this gym club: since the new payment system, have you received clear information about the cost per session, the cost per term and when sessions will be omitted eg for school opened days? (I have asked the club, more than once, no full response so far) This term started in late August, before school had gone back (did many attend that session?). Next term there is no break for half term, so there are 12 sessions to be paid. Does that seem to be more sessions than there used to be?    I am sure they are doing their best, but the info from the new auto pay system isn’t detailed enough, and the auto pay just takes an unspecified amount. I wondered if it’s just me (wanting more detail), or if there are others too? (my child loves the gym itself!) thanks
    • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent service! We had one of Paul Edgley’ s team come to fit some new lights in our living room. They were able to come at reasonably short notice, arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and did a great job. Everything was left clean and tidy afterwards, and the lights look fantastic. Highly recommend! Paul’s contact details are 07802 627967
    • For Plusnet, I pay £31.99 for Full Fibre 500.  (the number is the line speed you have paid for) I have recently recontracted.  Always phone them up, and ask what deal they can do for me.  Usually get a decent reduction.  Sue, I would suggest you call them, especially if you are close to contract renewal.  Sometimes they will change deals mid-contract, as I have found in the past.
