A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post…
Hi everyone,
I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well).
But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again.
Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet.
So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces.
I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!
I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.
If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.
Cheers all! 👋

Quiz night at Plough, use to be free music at Swedish Place on LLane  think, community cafe near Telegraph Hill has music, quiz etc.. guess it depends what age group you want to mix  with and where.
Meet up isn’t a bad site.

helped if you shared some interests and if you-are prepared to venture out if ED.

Herne Hill is good as well / free noticeboard in alley as well

As Spartacus says, EDF drinks! Though there may not be one in August, as many people will be away

Also, depending what you are into, there is a Singaround upstairs at The Castle in Crystal Palace Road on the second Sunday of the month. Listeners are welcome too!

It's all ages and any genre of song (though it depends who comes on any particular evening).

or PM me.

Also, lots going on at The Ivy House in Nunhead, London's first community owned pub

I've said it before, but I found a whole new tribe with Meetup.com

Easy to sign up and look for groups/events

Eventbrite also lists interesting stuff sometimes.

Parkrun?

    • By now you’ve hopefully seen that our main demonstration against Trump’s state visit is in London on Wednesday. Many of you have also asked, though, about how you can help ‘welcome’ Donald Trump to Windsor when he arrives there tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. So here’s the plan: We’re asking you to come and line Windsor High Street tomorrow in a peaceful, static protest.  Time: 6pm, Tue 16 Sept Location: Assemble outside Windsor Parish Church, High St, Windsor SL4 1LS and then spread out along the High Street. Grab some cardboard and a pen and make a homemade sign to show Donald Trump and his supporters what you think of them!  The world’s media will be in Windsor to cover the state visit, so showing visually that he is not welcome will send an important message far and wide. If you are coming then please join this Signal chat group for important updates.     Protest safety Please buddy up and come with someone else You have a right to peacefully demonstrate, but we are expecting a high police presence. Remain non-violent and non-confrontational, and do not talk to the police. It may be better to dress inconspicuously, not like an ‘activist’ We plan on ending at 7.30pm. Please leave in groups of 5–10 and make sure you have a bust card This action is entirely legal but we still recommend that you read this key advice when going on a protest to know your rights. Remember:  No comment No personal details Ask ‘under what power?’ No duty solicitor Don’t accept a caution Here is the protest support line: 07946 541 511 and here is more information on Stop & Search under the Public Order Act.   Thank you for being part of the movement against Trump. In solidarity, Stop Trump Coalition
