Apples Galore

We're having a bumper crop of eating apples this year - so many infact that we're wondering what to do with the surplus. Neighbours have had some and we've left some outside the house but I was thinking we could pass some on to a foodbank - or even to Kings if they're allowed to take in fruit?  

Suggestions appreciated.

Food banks for sure and what about approaching these schools in area that run summer camps - although having said that with health and safety being so strict might not allow it - crazy really. 
 

Can’t remember name of church but was one in Peckham that from memory did a community meal a couple of times a week. Now they for sure would take them and probably Kingswood House as well.

I'm sure they would welcome them, but maybe check first, as they don't actually mention fresh fruit on their website? But apples aren't that perishable.

Drop off seven days a week 9 - 5.

Be warned if you are going by car, parking can be very difficult, easiest if there are two of you so one person can take the food in while the other can move the car if necessary.

One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them.

Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them.

Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it

That's good of Sainsburys! We've done the apple pie and tart thing, an ongoing muesli thing and the coleslaw thing - just not sure what effect all the sugars are having on our digestive tracts.

You could make apple juice from eating apples, it would be very sweet, but for cider you need cider apples which are very different.

You can make cider from a variety of varieties of apple.  If course the best is west country/SW Midlands which is predominantly cider apples, that can be so tart it knocks your head off.  But cider producers often add desert apples, and Breton and Normandy ciders are sweeter.

Thanks for offering. Just this morning I took some pounds to Albrighton then got back to find more on the ground so have gathered those too. Let me get back to you privately about possibly coming here in the next few days? Thanks.
