Ruskin
We're having a bumper crop of eating apples this year - so many infact that we're wondering what to do with the surplus. Neighbours have had some and we've left some outside the house but I was thinking we could pass some on to a foodbank - or even to Kings if they're allowed to take in fruit? Suggestions appreciated. beansprout
Food banks for sure and what about approaching these schools in area that run summer camps - although having said that with health and safety being so strict might not allow it - crazy really. Can’t remember name of church but was one in Peckham that from memory did a community meal a couple of times a week. Now they for sure would take them and probably Kingswood House as well. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/365070-apples-galore/#findComment-1715392 Share on other sites
Sue
There's a food bank off Dog Kennel Hill. Albrighton Community Fridge. https://www.albrightoncommunityfridge.org/ I'm sure they would welcome them, but maybe check first, as they don't actually mention fresh fruit on their website? But apples aren't that perishable. Drop off seven days a week 9 - 5. Be warned if you are going by car, parking can be very difficult, easiest if there are two of you so one person can take the food in while the other can move the car if necessary. Jenijenjen
One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them. Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them. Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/365070-apples-galore/#findComment-1715394 Share on other sites

I'll call them shortly as I could get there without the car. 5 minutes ago, Jenijenjen said: One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. We've done the apple pie and tart thing, an ongoing muesli thing and the coleslaw thing - just not sure what effect all the sugars are having on our digestive tracts. 44 minutes ago, Earl Aelfheah said: Make some cider? If we were in Somerset and had a press, I'd consider it. Can't be that diffcult, can it? 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/365070-apples-galore/#findComment-1715396 Share on other sites

Thank you, it seems to be a few mins from Albrighton Community Fridge so I'll split the load. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/365070-apples-galore/#findComment-1715430 Share on other sites

You can make cider from a variety of varieties of apple. If course the best is west country/SW Midlands which is predominantly cider apples, that can be so tart it knocks your head off. But cider producers often add desert apples, and Breton and Normandy ciders are sweeter.
