The Woodwarde Road clinic has got so expensive  - £74 for 10/15 minutes nail cutting, Earlier in the year I paid £68.  Does anyone know of a cheaper clinic? Have friends who are on basic pensions and benefits who are finding it hard to finance these costs. NHS funded podiatry is virtually non existence - even if diabetic - you  face  long waits.

Have an accident with a toe!

I recently lost the nail of  my big toe. It was weakened because of a fungus, I think, and I accidentally kicked the toe with my  other foot. It bled a lot.

I was directed from the nurse of my GP practice (who temporarily dressed the toe but said it needed an expert) to the Southwark walk in  foot clinic in Bermondsey (the walk in clinics are on different days of the week in different locations, and the toe needed immediate attention).

From there, I got a follow up appointment a couple of weeks  later  at the rather more convenient Tessa Jowell foot clinic.

Following the wound check, I was pleased and surprised that I not only got all my toenails cut,  but was given the very sharp clippers (the podiatrist having first ascertained that my eyesight was ok).

I did ask if she could give me a manicure as well, but sadly the answer was no 🤣

ETA: As you probably know, these clinics won't just cut toenails, there has to be something else wrong.

I had no idea toenail cutting was so expensive! I've always just done it myself!

Wow - that is expensive

I lost my toe nail years ago via fungus and it grew back. Has your nail grown back now? Assume so or getting there.

So to be clear, you are looking for someone to cut your toe nails?

I'm confused.

Are you answering me, or Pugwash?

If me, my nail with fungus was only  knocked off a few weeks back. So the nail hasn't grown back yet.

I am not looking for someone to cut my toenails, as the podiatrist at the foot clinic cut them when checking the wound where the nail came off.

It is Pugwash who is looking for somebody to cut their toenails, and MattGale has suggested Happy Feet as a cheaper alternative to Woodwarde Road.

I do not think the Age UK service is available for those who have diabetes.  Just checked link - does provide for diabetics but need GP letter.

Nearest  venue to ED is Bells Garden SE15 - but I have a vague feeling that the council have just closed this community centre.

Eldest daughter got student loan and after 20 years managed to pay it off, Youngest daughter still paying hers 18 years later. Granddaughter - still paying after 6 years. Grandson decided against FE and secured an apprentenship. I am glad that I am an old codger and not young anymore !

    • It is not only Southwark - our grandson, partner and 7 year old had a one bed council flat for years in Harlow Essex and all the properties offered were in poor condition. They eventually took a property as if they refused another one they would drop to the bottom of the Housing List. It was damp and in need of a level of renovation. Having lived in these conditions for a while they were offered better council accommodation recently, but further away from child's school. They had to pay 2 lots of rent for a few weeks as council had to undertake work in the new premises before they could move in,
    • Just had an interior decorating job done by Andy. The final outcome looks lovely and he did some remedial work at the same time to fill in gaps in the ceiling (due to previous electrical work) and to remediate any similar areas to ensure a polished overall look. Would highly recommend him for any similar job, he quoted a very reasonable price for the job as well. Thanks Andy!
