Dear friends

I am seeking to locate a suitable space to initiate some FREE Latin dance opportunities. 'Pop-up Latin Dance Experience' I am doing this on behalf of a friend and recent Colombian immigrant Yamile Herera who I have known for a couple of years as a talented multi-professional teacher and dance school owner. She has danced professionally, owned a successful dance school and has taught many Latin dance disciplines including all forms of salsa, tango and lesser known forms such as porro and pasa doble. Yamile married a UK mental health professional and is six months into the adventure of her new life here in London, currently living with her husband and daughter in Gypsy Hill.

I am a retired senior Education officer from Croydon Local Authority and in retirement I have developed an interest and love of Latin culture, traveled widely in South America and I have worked voluntarily helping establish micro businesses. I am not seeking profit, just following my interest one of which is Yamile's project to share her expertise and eventually re commence her business interest here in the UK.

We have identified an intermediate stage - the aims to

test levels of interest in the area of West Norwood;

offer Yamile and opportunity to develop her capacity to teach dance in her second language, English; and

develop a relationship with a local excellent venue

I very much hope to hear from you and that we could be working with you in the near future. We recognize that there may be costs involved for yourselves and would want to contribute to your funds

Yours sincerely

Alan Malarkey

    • It wasn't an antique and bric-a-bac shop but an antique market with a number of different traders, the cafe supported all the dealers in bringing in custom, and was good enough to generate trade for them. It was Rodney Franklin's and his partners enterprise, he previously had an antique shop in Queenstown Road in Battersea. His late wife ran the cafe (she was a very fine actress, it was a 'resting' job).  It was on the corner of a junction on the left as you head towards Camberwell. And almost opposite, if memory serves at all, an MFI style furniture outlet.
    • i used to go there in the late 80's and '90s (?) the food was served cafeteria style and there was limited choice, but what there was alays tasted amazing!  The garden was an absolute paradise, you could sit in it to lunch in the summer!  i've tried to locate its site but Walworth Road has changed so much since then - does anyone remember the house number?
