kbabes
I heard today there was a burglary in Lacon Road yesterday evening between 20.00 - 22.00, apparently the owners were home at the time & thieves got away with electrical items along with the owners car! Wtf! Anyone heard anything else? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/ Share on other sites
ribrob
We've had two attempted break-ins this year, one early spring, the other mid summer. Didn't get in either time, but caused almost 2k's worth of damage to bay windows and garage doors trying. jazzer
Shocked to hear that they did so much damage trying to break in. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1720819 Share on other sites
Jellybeanz
Sadly crime does seem to be going up in terms of opportunists and street crime / bike thefts etc. Lack of CCTV in this area means it's more of a target than some neighbouring areas according to police (when they sent victim support round after our car had its catalytic converter stolen twice in 6 months by organised gang complete with balaclavas, iron bars and a chainsaw.. driving a 4x4). Crime still relatively low by some parts of London standards but a worrying trend if burglars are trying their luck when people are actually home. Wonder what local police/ MP thoughts are in terms of whether they could organise more community policing patrols. I read a woman was punched in the face on/near Lordship Lane in an unprovoked attack a week or two ago. Terrifying. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721057 Share on other sites

Terrifying. Whilst clearly 'a crime', I don't think this necessarily sits with the other things you have described. A tragic and awful incident certainly, and dreadfully traumatic to the victim, but not part of any 'crime wave' as such, I suspect. It's the sort of thing which, sadly, can happen anywhere (I, again, suspect). 3 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721066 Share on other sites
jazzer
The current crimes from what I hear are phone theft from the person, car theft and tradesman vehicle/tools theft. Plus of course the overall increase in stabbings and shootings across London which are becoming normalised. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721070 Share on other sites

No it is not, it is a fact whether you like it or not. Do you feel safe on the streets, because I don't, do you go too central London, I don't as I don't feel safe. No one knows if someone is i) carrying a weapon or a knife and ii) you don't know what will trigger them to use it. So feel free to live in your bubble, but the reality is London is lawless and the police stand by and do nothing. Whereas I'm guessing most crimes locally are committed for money, (ie things that can be sold, or in hopes of insurance money), food (if someone is really desperate, or to sell) or just pure mischief (like the recent goings on on Peckham Rye). 51 minutes ago, jazzer said: No it is not, it is a fact whether you like it or not. So feel free to live in your bubble, but the reality is London is lawless and the police stand by and do nothing. I'm a 76 year old woman, and I feel safe on the streets, and I frequently go to Central London. If you seriously don't feel safe living here, why on earth don't you go and live somewhere else?! It's absolute nonsense to say London is lawless, and it's absolute nonsense to say the police stand by and do nothing. There will always be crime. It used to be cutpurses and highwaymen. And organised gangs of thieves. And people like Jack the Ripper. jazzer
Well good for you, I don't feel safe. And saying why don't I go and live somewhere else is crass. Yes London is lawless, open your eys and see the reality. 2 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721097 Share on other sites

What do you do, barricade yourself in your home and never venture out? I have my eyes (sic) open. Yes there is crime in London. That doesn't make London "lawless". 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721098 Share on other sites

malumbu
I feel safe. I've suffered my own share of crime in London, and also elsewhere in the UK and world. But I still feel safe For those giving personal rather than objective cures about crime, and speculating, I suggest that you attend your SNT meeting. 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721100 Share on other sites

No. I'm just genuinely interested to know why you continue to live in a place which you consider to be "lawless", and where you don't feel safe. Interesting turn of phrase, though, given your views of East Dulwich and Central London, "all guns blazing". 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721101 Share on other sites
jazzer
You quite happily fire from the hip "demanding" answers, how about taking a different tack and not making it personal. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721102 Share on other sites
Sue
38 minutes ago, jazzer said: You quite happily fire from the hip "demanding" answers, how about taking a different tack and not making it personal. It was you who made it personal in the first place, Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets, and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app and go to sleep 😴💤 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721107 Share on other sites
Sue
I'm genuinely sorry if I have derailed this thread, which started off as being about a specific burglary in Lacon Road. I will start another thread in the lounge, because I think the general points being discussed are important. A "habit on here of 'demanding' answers"? Crikey. I didn't say you "should" do anything! This is a forum. For discussion. I will say whatever I like and ask whatever I like, within the forum rules, as can anybody else Please move your issues with me to the thread I have started in the lounge on feeling safe in London, because this is a thread about a burglary in Lacon Road. If you continue to post your complaints about me on this thread, I shall not respond, so do feel free. Or if you think I have broken any forum rules, do feel free to report me to admin. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/367099-burglary-lacon-road/#findComment-1721197 Share on other sites
jazzer
Oh now you're coming over all defensive. What happened to the nice Sue, because since the early part of the year your approach seems to have changed and you've become much more challenging. No you have not broken any rules and even if you had why would I involve Admin, that's a ludicrous thing to say. Take care Sue.
