Hello, my name is Maki. I'm a writer and an artist who loves working with children. I'm looking for a minimum rate of £20-22 an hour, for a minimum of 16-20 hours a week - either for one family or as a nanny share. I can offer ad hoc babysitting and evening work as well. I'm located between Catford and Forest Hill but can cycle around Southeast easily and quickly.

I was a nanny for several years to three wonderful girls between the ages of 4-15, and can provide references. Plus, as the eldest daughter of a large family, I have lots of informal experience of looking after wee ones of all ages - from babies to teens. I'm very familiar with all sorts of childcare tasks, from changing nappies, planning and cooking tasty, healthy meals (I’m a healthy foodie!), cleaning, helping out with homework, arts and crafts, fun trips to the playground, and providing a safe, encouraging space for wee ones to talk about their day.

I am degree-educated, with a Masters in ecology and sociology, and have experience in science educational publishing, where I created educational content and learned about many different ways to engage kids in their learning. I'm also a freelance arts, cooking, and nature facilitator, where I showcase my love of inspiring creativity in others. My work includes collaging workshops, zine-making workshops, reading groups, film clubs, food storytelling, cyanotype printing, and more. As such, I am confident that I can help your kids channel their creative flow, and I can definitely assist with any tricky homework sheets that they may be struggling with. I have helped to motivate and tutor children in literature, science, and maths, helping them improve their grades through fun games and by assessing their own individual learning needs.

I'm also more than happy to help out with any housework, and also with animal care as I love animals and have much experience catsitting and dogsitting. I'm comfortable on a bike too if you would like a cyclist. I speak a little Japanese, a little Indonesian, and I love languages - so would be happy to assist with language learning as well. I have a DBS and would happily arrange for a refresher of my first aid training.

Most of all, I would love to be a fun, nourishing, and helpful presence for your family.

If this sounds of interest to you, please do let me know.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Maki

    • This is a bit niche 🤣 I like  Kargs cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread, but it's quite expensive even when it's on offer. So when M&S started their own brand,  I used to buy that sometimes. It was different from Kargs, but ok. Then it disappeared from the shelves for ages. I assumed this was due to the supply problems after M&S  were hacked into. So I was quite pleased recently to see it had returned. But it now tastes revolting (in my opinion). I have no idea what was in it before, as I had no reason to look, but on checking the ingredient list now,  the second after wheat flour  is cornflour (?!), and it's also got palm fat, rapeseed oil, cheese powder and potato starch. And some other stuff. Plus some  actual cheese. I can't find anything online to say the recipe was  changed, so maybe my taste buds have suddenly become more sensitive, but after reading this, I'm appalled M&S are selling this rubbish. Has anyone else noticed any changes? I'm assuming they waited some time so customers would have used up what they had and couldn't make a direct comparison, but that might be a hideous slur (if so, apologies to M&S). Kargs use sunflower oil, and have  none of these other weird ingredients. I shall be gritting my teeth and buying only Kargs from now on. Disclaimer 1 : I don't have any shares in Kargs. I wish I did, I might get a discount! Disclaimer 2:  Yes I have many better things to do with my time than post on here moaning about crispbread, but I am having a tea break (just preempting another attack from those people who haven't got better things to do with THEIR  time than post on here to randomly attack other posters for no apparent reason).
    • There is the Blue Brick Cafe for vegetarian food too.
