I’ve noticed Southwark blue garden waste bags dotted along roads - Melbourne grove, bawdale, and they seem to have bits of bushes in them. Does anyone know what is going on? Is the council pruning along the road? Seems too many to be individual people putting them out for collection. My road has a lot of big bushes on it so I’m hoping the council might be doing mine next!

Two guys were going down the south end of Underhill cleaning leaves from pavements and gutters and hoeing to remove grasses and weeds. They were doing a good job as well. And filling lots of blue bags. Lot more leaves to fall, however, so I hope they'll be back!

Seems a waste to squander one of the bi-annual leaf collections on a day when all the leaves are still on the trees.

In a few weeks time the paths will be strewn with wet rotting slippery leaves, (hiding countless piles of dog shit left behind by the selfish dog owners of East Dulwich) and the Council will do nothing because the scheduled collection has already happened.

    • But i think the problem has been here far longer. For years there have been massive queues so the ownership change isn’t the thing to blame. I only use the PO for money deposits so i don’t have that many options unless i want to go to Crosswaithe avenue
    • Things have changed a lot since the 2024 election. But the trends even in that period are very clear.  <iframe height="537px" width="100%" src="https://www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/dvc3411/fig01/index.html"></iframe> This graph shows the trajectory and it's very bad news for housebuilders and the housing market.
    • How widely are people aware of Royal Mail's sending service - if it's a parcel you can pay and print off label at home and just drop off. link below. They will even pick it up for a small extra charge (maybe even free depending on item). I did this on Monday and was aiming to drop off at LL PO but saw the queue was stretching way out into the street so diverted over to corner shop in Upland Road and dropped it off there.  https://send.royalmail.com/?cid=SM_RMP_0223&s_kwcid=AL!10933!3!781157212692!b!!g!!royal mail tracked 48&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23192018280&gbraid=0AAAAADnU4TDfp6wGzzGiPexY0ahf0UnAT&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyP3KBhD9ARIsAAJLnnYKkFDCIiPu21DB_Iv_oQaBMiAsWz8toFN1mHaGgYdQFRc5U9UfZ8MaApJpEALw_wcB It might help morale if they got their sign fixed. It's been like this since before Christmas.
    • Elon Musk's 'X', rapidly spreads misinformation, hate speech, harassment and enables the creation and distribution of deepfakes. It is in my opinion, having a malign influence on society. Recently it has been reported that 'Grok' (it's AI function) allows people to create sexualised images of children. It is disgraceful that the UK government isn't taking any action to regulate the platform, in the absence of their putting reasonable controls in place themselves. At the very, very least, the UK government and our MPs should not be actively supporting 'X' by using it themselves. If you agree, I would encourage you to write to Ellie Reeves demanding some action (she posts regularly on the platform). Her email address is [email protected]
