Our BMW MSport was broken into last night on Woodwarde Road. I understand there have been 2 successful thefts very recently on Woodwarde Road. The Police cannot put posts on Forums but want people to be aware and vigilant.

About a year ago someone attempted to steal this car by drilling out the driver door lock but somehow failed to steal it. This time it was different.

Whoever broke into the car, made it look like a petty car break in by stealing the change from the ash tray. But they also left the glove compartment open and the contents of the car service manual strewn over the seat minus the plastic valet key. They left open a small compartment by the driver door - presumably looking for the car port.

On inspection, the Police informed us that this is a professional organisation who are targeting fast/new/high spec cars to order. Once they have identified a car, they wait nearby (in a car or hidden possibly around the corner) with a laptop/ipad/electronic device etc. When you open your car door they collect the signal from the car key and use that code to get into your car at another time/date. We are also informed that the purpose of them looking for the car port (looks like a scart plug) is so that they can plug in their computer and then start the car once inside.

If you see anyone suspicious (male/female) or something which you feel is not quite right, then please call the Police on 101 as they are more than happy to call out.

Do not leave anything in your car that could be useful to a thief (such as a service manual).

Please share similar experiences with the forum as we all need to know what is happening on our doorstep.

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.

Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
