CHRIST CHURCH, 263 Barry Road
London
SE22 0JT

Once again the Dulwich Hill SNT will be holding an informal meeting in the church/café area

at Christ Church. Are you a resident/business owner residing or working in the Dulwich Hill electoral ward and have concerns re anti social behaviour/crime or just want to meet your local police team. - please come along.

May I ask as I am interested to know.. what was the age range? Know, that when I lived there, tried early evening & that was worse as people who might have been interested in attending had kids to deal with… supper, after school activities, etc.. and older folk didn’t want to go out.

Would it not be better to do it over a weekend? Say Sat as opposed to Sun when some go to church and of course clashes with activities  for kids whichever day one chooses. I get one has to do it when bobbies are available…

Given the incidents around ED, would have thought this would be a better approach or perhaps, link it in with  the guy from council was very proactive..

Just strikes me, that people who might wish or want to attend, would not be available.. work being one..

If you look at all the Cuppa with Copper in ED they are all during the day - the Dulwich Village SNT hold theirs at various venues.

If a resident has concerns and cannot get to meet the team, they can arrange a home visit.

I know a couple of the officers have called upon people at their home.

Many of the residents are now linked to Met Engage and receive regular updates from the police.

What council guy are you talking about?

There were also Mums/childminders with young children there who also briefly spoke with a couple of the officers,

additional info

Well I for one, wish I had know when I have a very unnerving incident happen to me over a weekend had the number of local officer. Called and reported incident even did it on line - zero response.

Could you possibly give our e mail address or numbers and names of our local bobbies please, or ask their permission for those of us who can’t attend in the middle of the week on a working day.

Are you back to living in ED or still in Devon but coming back to London for medical treatment?

You can google the Met Police and get the SNT details of whatever ward applies.

What I gather from our Cuppa with a Copper session yesterday, they have done welfare checks at the resident's address.  The email you sent - was it to a general address  as I understand that this 'central information base' then gets filtered down to individual SNT teams,

A couple of mums turned up - did not stay long as Police were running late due to transport issues. We had 3 ladies who had not attended before, the majority were retired folk but we had one lady in her 30s who did hybrid working so was able to get out during the day.  - 12 of us.

Well guess it is better than a couple or none…and nice to see the cross section of age groups.

Pity  though, in day time but know you tried a few years ago at nighttime around kids supper time and from memory only about 2/3. Just a pity like I have said that with crime rate clearly rising in ED more of the community can’t attend. Having said that, now we are approaching winter time, don’t think it would matter when as few would come out.

Would be nice though to say change it to perhaps a weekend later pm say 4/5 , or in deed a weeknight when people are home from work in say Spring.. Maybe you should ask people in ED for their views or indeed how many might come if timings were changed.. up to you as you are the organiser of this I believe.

And of course it depends on local bobbies schedule.

    • I just googled, and apparently there's another branch of the Soho Street Govinda's  in Theobald's Road. I had no idea.
    • yes that's the one!  it was (nearly) harmless fun to get the un-initiated to put the coin in for you i also seem to remember that the Hanway Street place was called Govinda's.  it was vegetarian, vegan even - but it was much more palatable fare than the standard Hare Krishna stuff.  I also used to go tot he Indian Y - which I remmber discussing on the EDF some eyars ago.  And then the first Wagamama opened off Russell Street
    • Sometime in the mid 80s, the first incarnation was on Peckham Rye near the new old Tesco’s
    • Off topic (ish) but does anyone else remember when Blue Mountain opened? They had chocolate coated coffee beans and a range of coffee beans sold loose, and I can't remember whether it was freshly baked  bread or rolls or croissants or  something else, but my then partner used to go and buy it/them in the morning. And behind the part with the counter, it was divided into several little rooms, all different colours and styles. There was another room upstairs, though I can't remember if that was open from the beginning  It was great. It went through many incarnations after that, before eventually sadly closing, but I liked the first one best. Also off topic (ish) there was a Greek? Turkish? deli opposite. My then partner bought some yoghurt there once, and when he got it home he found it was months (I think) past its sell by date. He took it back. The guy in the shop opened it up, looked at it, sniffed it and said "There's nothing wrong with that." 😂
