Mid Century Danish sofa - free

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

We’re getting rid of our much-loved black leather four-seater mid century Danish sofa (approx 1960s). We bought it from the Dulwich College Mid Century Fair about twelve years ago and it has been in daily family use.

We haven’t pinned down a manufacturer/designer, but it has a distinctive lightly scalloped and a slightly curved sweep to the back. The legs are we understand rosewood. We have seen the two- and three-seater versions for sale, e.g. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/sofas/mid-century-vintage-brown-leather-three-seat-sofa-denmark-circa-1960-70/id-f_35613822/, but the four-seater is more unusual (though the brown version is featured in the Prime Minister’s office in the TV show Borgen!).

The sofa now needs t.l.c. - but it is still comfortable, and the seat base is still intact and supportive. The leather is pretty worn on the seat cushions and arms in particular, and there have been repairs. The appearance of the leather could be greatly improved with some time, effort and leather repair products as a budget option (we can even donate you some products that we didn’t get round to using), or a more professional approach could restore it to its full glory.

We don’t want anything for it, but while it still has life in it we’d like it to go to someone who would appreciate it, and/or restore it - maybe someone setting up home with more sense of style than cash.

For a four-seater sofa it is quite compact, but it doesn’t come apart and it is pretty long. We had difficulty getting it into our living room because there was no room to manoeuvre it through our front hall and doorways; we had to bring it in over our back fence and through living room sliding doors - and it would have to go back out that way, into a public car park at the back of our house. Anyone taking the sofa would ideally be able to help us with this, as it is very awkward. It will need a van to transport it - but we could potentially deliver it within a 5-mile radius of Peckham (subject to aforementioned help getting it out of the house). Would-be takers should also think carefully about whether they can actually get the sofa into their own living room!

An original vintage piece of furniture, this does not have fire labels.

The dimensions are:

Length - 236 cm

Depth  - 84 cm

Height - 76 cm

Thanks!

    • Useful link, thanks. I see that neither of the Dulwich Hill councillors are standing again but one of the new Labour candidates for DH recently left the Lib Dems… The Greens are led by someone who left the Lib Dems and full of people who left Labour. Reform is full of those who left the Tories. And the Tories are full of those who left our planet some time ago. Confused? You will be!
    • I'm sorry to learn that though Liam does seems well qualified. Hopefully with McAsh gone, Southwark Labour will turn to Charlie to fill the gap.
    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
