Volunteering Opportunities for 14 year old?

My 14 year old daughter who like to do some community volunteering as part of her Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. Does anyone know of any opportunities (apart from charity shops, and royal voluntary service, and DoE website itself - all of which we have looked at)?

You could ask Friends of Kings at Kings College Hospital, they are always looking for volunteers to help out. I am sure they would be glad to find something. I think this is the contact: [email protected]

Failing that check out the websit e@ http://www.kch.nhs.uk/about/get-involved/volunteering

Hope this helps.

Thanks

I think her age may go against her for many things. When my eldest was young she helped out once a week at a local PHAB club (Physically handicapped and Able Bodied) She was about 13/14 - just generally got talking to other young people who had a disability and helping them with sport etc. Local special needs school may be able to advise whether they have a 'youth club' helping out in local Brownie/Cub group
My son volunteered at his old Junior school with afternoon clubs, maybe that is an option. Or sports clubs that run on the weekend or evenings? I know Tulse Hill hockey takes DofE volunteers, there must be more clubs like that out there keen for a teenager to help out.

    • Loving the arm chair speculation on here  Blimey how long before this gets spun out to be a drug dealer welding a sawn off whilst driving away from a smash and grab at the coop cash machine flipped his car and landed on a bollard type post  Where's the green cross code man when you need him ?
    • If you haven't already watched this totally shocking docudrama on Channel 4 then make sure you watch it and tell everyone you know to watch It It lays bare the scandalous, harmful and lethal  (in some cases) behaviour of the water companies since privatisation.  I for one didn't realise that the water companies pay the regulator/environment agency to regulate them in one mega conflict of interest.   This is as shocking as the post office/postmasters scandal with even more far reaching consequences.
    • We have been going to Franklins for many years. On the whole we have found both the food and service extremely good,  and good value for money, but there have been one or two low points, including unfortunately a very expensive but disappointing  meal with friends which I was paying for. I think it may depend on who is in the kitchen. We had a really excellent meal from their Christmas menu before Christmas this year, which for the quality of the food and cooking we didn't feel was expensive at all. I think it would be a real shame if it was turned into a pub. It isn't that kind of place. That's why we like it.
