Not sure whether to put this here or in the lounge, so admin please move if it's in the wrong place.

I have got something which seems worse than a cold but not as bad as flu (thankfully).

It started with a very sore throat last Thursday morning, then progressed to a  very runny nose on and off plus a cough at the same time, combined with total lack of physical/mental energy.

Every time I think it's going away it starts again.

I know this is very minor in the great scheme of things/illnesses, and I'm not looking for sympathy, but if anyone else has had it, I'm wondering  how long it's likely to last?

When I got covid a couple if years ago it was just like that, especially the bit about it feeling like not as bad as flu but worse than a cold. Have you tested for it? Hope you get over it soon.

Oh dear, no I haven't.

I have had Covid and flu jabs this year,  so I just assumed it wasn't Covid.

Thanks.

You can still get covid even after the jab, it just helps lessen the symptoms if you do.

Might be worth testing so that you can contain it if it is 😀

Yes thanks, I found some in-date tests I didn't know I had, will do one shortly.

But whatever I've got, I have no intention of spreading it around, even if I felt like going out, which I don't 😭

I think I may have got it at Guy's, which was full of people snuffling and coughing last  Tuesday, despite large notices asking them to stay home if they were.

Hope I haven't given it to anyone at the forum drinks, I had no symptoms then.

I had this ~2 weeks ago, wasn't achey like the flu and I tested negative for Covid. Started as sore throat which went quite quickly, but then went very runny nose and sinus pain. Really knocked me out for about 7-10 days. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Trident. Sounds very similar.

I just did a Covid test which was negative, too.

Hoping mine will be 7 rather than 10 days or it's going to cause even more inconvenience for others than it already has 😭

Def Covid. It follows a very strange trajectory and you never bloody know where you are with it. It took me three weeks to feel fully well again. I always know it by  the very distinctive sore throat it gives you and horrendous upper respiratory tract symptoms. It never feels as intense as flu cos you don't get the rigor you'll get with bad flu, but it sure has its own set of crappy symptoms

You might be right, but I don't think this is Covid.

The Covid test was negative,  the sore throat was very sore but  only lasted a day, and I wouldn't call the intermittent very runny nose, sneezing and dry cough "horrendous".

The lack of energy is the worst thing. I've been in bed since Thursday.

But it doesn't really matter what it is, I just hope it goes away sooner rather than later 😭

It might also be RSV, also going round. Or a nasty Corona virus ('common cold') you haven't had before (Covid is also one of those).

I had to Google RSV.

I had a jab for that I think, but I thought it was for pneumonia, maybe they just called it that.

Staying in bed in the hope it won't get worse.

Labelling it is irrelevant really, unless there is a quick fix for something specific which can be identified, which sounds unlikely.

Whatever it is, please wear a correct mask when you go out so you don’t get anything and if you already have something then you won’t pass it, whatever it is.    You said you had some masks that your daughter had given you a while ago so it sounds like you weren’t wearing one.   Ask any medics/clinicians treating you to also put on a mask.  They will if you ask them.

I shan't be going out at all  whilst I have symptoms!

I have FFP2 masks, as discussed on another thread. My daughter did not give them to me, she recommended a particular supplier as their masks were bright colours.

I always carry at least one with me, but I don't always wear one, depending on the circumstances.

I was at Guys accompanying someone else to an important appointment. It didn't feel at all appropriate  either to wear a mask or to ask the consultant to. It was the last thing on my mind.

I appreciate your concern, but it feels like I am getting my hand slapped like a naughty child!

There is a vaccine against RSV, but also one against pneumonia; I've had both. But maybe you've only had one. The pneumonia was offered to me several years before RSV, which I think was only last year. Worth checking what you have had.

Just checked on the NHS app, and I had the RSV jab last year.

It provides protection for more than one year apparently, so you aren't called to have it every year

Agree with the general sentiment above.

Me and all my friends have all had bad cold recently. Like others I suspect it's either covid 19 or rsv or another coronavirus. I don't think it's flu or bird flu luckily. Also thanking the good Lord it isn't  a winter vomiting bug!!

Yes, both the RSV and the pneumonia seem to be once-only jabs, but if you haven't had the pneumonia very well worth having.

Yes, thanks, evidently I have had both!

Yes, thank goodness (though I have been feeling a bit sick, but I suspect that may be due to oat milk past its use by date which I stupidly used to make  hot chocolate last night).

yes i have been FLOORED these past 4 days, first 2 days horrid fever just up and down, scratch throat, just about stabalised my temp but very bunged up. no intention of going out just feeling sorry for myself and watching xmas movies.

Sorry to hear you are ill too.

Sounds different to mine, I haven't been feverish, and my throat wasn't scratchy, just very sore on the first day.

Though I did sound a bit hoarse when I spoke on the phone this morning.

Definitely feeling sorry for myself though, got a lot to do and not up to doing it, just lying around in bed.

Commiserations to everyone else in the same boat!

    • Many people like letting their dogs take a crap in the street as well... It's not mass transport. It's transport for those too lazy to actually cycle rather than sitting on a powered vehicle. Oh and those green credentials? Discuss those with the kids digging up the critical minerals powering the bikes. These vehicles should be docked as they are in other cities. That way twats wouldn't be able to leave them in the way of those who can't see well or get around easily. They like their mobility too.

    • Arnold Clark in Sydenham.  Easy to reach on 176 bus and good weekend deals. Used them recently and all good.   I believe cheaper in general than the big national ones
