As regards weighing things the old way of scamming wasn't to have scales which weren't correctly calibrated, but judicious use of the shopkeeper's thumb. So reporting a problem may simply uncover scales that work properly.

It depends how the problem was investigated, which might not mean testing the scales.

Please name all of the shops.

As I've already said above, people can check things for themselves when they buy things.

One item half price on the shelves in Sainsburys this morning, but full price at the till One has to ask how common is this?

I've had something similar happen. I noticed it at the checkout because I was only buying one item which I couldn't get elsewhere. It was on special offer and the price difference was significant.

I was asked to go right to the other, far,  side of the shop to take a photo of the shelf price.

It was just before Christmas (not this year), the shop was jam-packed, and I am ancient and decrepit.

Long saga, but I complained and said surely the correct prices should be on whatever resource (?) is used at the till when products are scanned in.

I'd have to look back to see the exact outcome, but if memory serves Sainsbury's just gave some bland reply and said complaints weren't passed on to the store 😮

I would say that about one in four of our recent trips to Sainsburys Dog Kennel Hill have included a visit to customer services to get a refund for an item which, when self scanned has a higher cost than the shelf label price. I always take a photo of the shelf label. Never yet scanned an item that comes up with a lower cost than the label.

I am sure that the shop must be breaking the law but I haven't tried to check or take the matter further as yet.

    • Yes. Hundreds of them, judging by the Photinias I see everywhere I go 🤮 I don't notice them until the horrid (imo) red leaves start appearing! Irrational, as I said. I can't bear privet either. I hate the smell of its flowers 🤮 Anyway, please go back to discussing fallen leaves. Sorry, admin. Other things have colour! Camellias have lovely flowers in the gloomy season!
    • Temi has just completed an awkward job covering up serious stains from a dilapidated valley roof (now renewed) She worked carefully and produced an excellent result - a pristine ceiling. Highly recommended.
    • Nothing wrong with a bit of springtime colour after a dull grey winter, I like a Red Robin too!
