First Saturday in 2026 – first Healthy Ride. Nice easy loop from Peckham via Burgess Pk and Canada Water.
10am start in Peckham Square. Bruce leading a 10 mile, flat ride. Start down to Burgess Park then back streets to Cycleway 4 at St James Rd. Short stretch to Southwark Park then ride round the park and cross along new path to Canada Water. Coffee stop at Corner Corner. Next to Thames Path at Brunel Tunnel Museum. Along to Surrey Water then up to Stave Hill. Warm up by running up Stave Hill then bike through Russia Woodland to Greenland Dock. On via South Dock to Cycleway 4 on Evelyn St. Use crossing to access Deptford Park then through new development (Neptune Wharf) to corner of Folkstone Gardens and up Surrey Canal Road to Bridgehouse Meadows. New cycle lane and crossing to Brimmington Park then back streets to Peckham Square. Lots to see, no tricky crossings.  Get 2026 started with this relaxed social ride. Forecast for Saturday is dry and sunny but ONLY 1 DEGREE – very cold. Dress appropriately, some guidelines here. Over Friday night temperatures are forecast to fall below zero so there is a risk of ice, especially if it rains on Friday. The route chosen should have low risk of ice, but be careful travelling to the start.
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of (mostly Saturday) rides organised by Southwark Cyclists, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

Always something new to see on this favourite short anti-clockwise loop that follows the Thames on both banks. An easy 11 mile ride we use DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and return over London Bridge. Meet up 10am in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station and next to Canada Water Library. Route includes Russia Woodland, Deptford Historic Waterfront, Shadwell Basin and canal-side paths to St Katherines Dock. Coffee stop on return leg. No hills, mostly off road, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Simon K. leading. It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station. Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Please indicate on the registration form that you will be joining at Greenwich.. • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
