Beware - sheet ice Avondale Rise .

Please be aware that there is a huge sheet of ice approx 12ft x 6ft on the road at the top end of Avondale Rise on the left hand side approaching Ivanhoe Road.  The council was told earlier this morning, but advised that, due to a reduced service, it is unlikely that grit /salt will be spread before Monday!  Several (thankfully minor) accidents have happened since this morning.  A resident has thoughtfully erected a temporary sign to advise traffic of the hazard, but bearing in mind that temperatures are due to fall to -4 over the weekend and this is on a bus route, please be very careful if driving on this road.

The Chadwick Road railway bridge is also sheet ice. Watched 3 hire bike's lose it and come off and one car which ended up on the pavement.

The bikes seemed very surprised when it happened although you could see the ice.

Black ice isn't always that obvious.  I hope you checked that the riders were OK.

Perhaps if any residents in that area have some sand it could be scattered? Better than nothing? If the council cannot get to side roads perhaps residents could do the bits of road and pavement outside their home. Maybe some roads need a salt box?

Cycling in icy conditions is hard enough but the thought of doing it on a Lime bike makes me shudder. Even as a pedestrian it is so easy to slip on black ice.  I hope everyone is wearing good thick gloves and protective clothing and I also hope anyone out there cycling is okay.

Residents on Court Lane doing a great job this morning clearing ice as that is treacherous in parts as well.

Ongoing water leak from forecourt of former Tile Giant & crossing pavement to road (opposite former Grove Tavern) reported to Thames Water yesterday evening - they said not their responsibility, but said it was owner's responsibility. Warned TW that likely ice overnight, but wouldn't budge.

If it’s not their responsibility then it’s not their responsibility. If it’s that of one of the properties on that parade, that property own must take action.
