Not East Dulwich but not far, there is a stall in Borough Market that sells raw milk.  I'm sure you know this,  but be very careful with raw milk, particularly if any of the people looking  to consume it have compromised immune systems.

Hi

Does anyone know where you can buy raw milk in East Dulwich? possibly any farmers markets?

thanks

Hook and Son stall at Herne Hill market sell raw milk, butter and cream every Sunday 10am - 3pm. Get in early as it sells out. Defra certified, they test the herd and report. Raw dairy is regulated, I'd visit Hook and Son website as well Defra pages if I needed assurance.

Isn't that what Defra test  the herd for?

Yes, but not on a daily basis. The incidence of bovine TB is now very limited, both through testing and through pasteurisation, but an old (and I also mean relatively aged) friend of mine did get bovine TB as a child (just post-war) and it was no laughing matter,

I spent seven hours in customs, and was threatened with the revocation of my Canadian residency, for attempting to take half a pound of unpasteurised Lincolnshire Poacher and a whole raw-milk Stichelton into Lester B Pearson airport in Toronto.

The egg was on their faces though, and we did laugh, when I could prove they were both aged over ninety days and therefore not subject to their draconian dairy import restrictions.

True story, that.

The dairy merchants Hook & Sons at Herne Hill market on Sundays sell raw milk in glass bottle (you leave a deposit for the bottle, they pay it back when you return it). They are also open every day at Borough Market. They also sell a bunch of other nice dairy products

    • Sorry, I know this isn't strictly an East Dulwich topic but as there are so many late-Victorian properties in the area I wondered if anyone has seen anything similar in their house and can advise. We have what looks like an old gas outlet on the back wall of our daughter's bedroom which we'd like to remove, but we weren't sure whether it's safe to do so. Do I just call a registered gas engineer to check it out? And is it definitely a gas outlet or might it be something else? It's at floor level so maybe electricity but it doesn't look like any electricity outlet I've ever seen! Has anyone had any experience of dealing with something similar?

    • End of a wonderful era. We’ve been going since it opened and even started contractions with my oldest (25 year old) son during a lovely New Year’s Eve lunch. Thank you Rod and Tim for some amazing memories.
