Hi, I’m a Creative Robotics student at UAL’s Creative Computing Institute, with 2 years of experience teaching afterschool coding and robotics clubs (ages 6–15). I’m no longer able to continue at my previous schools due to location, so I’m looking to take on a few students for private tuition. I’ve been building robotics projects since primary school, and through teaching I learnt it is one of my passions to inspire young people to explore technology through hands-on making and creative thinking.

Location/ Travel

  • I’m based between Peckham and Limehouse
  • I could travel up to 60 minutes possibly more for group lessons
  • Online coding only lessons are possible

Pricing

  • I’m aiming at £30-45 per hour (depending on location, and whether it’s a 1:1 or a group)
  • An optional £25 one-off cost if you’d like your child to keep their own BBC micro:bit V2
  • I would be happy to offer a discounted first lesson and a short intro call explaining how the lessons will work and what we will aim towards

Lesson format

  • Ideally 1:1, but small groups up to 5 or 6 if they’re all in the same area
  • 60-75 minutes works best, but could go down to 45 minutes minimum

What you need

  • I can bring all equipment, but I strongly advise the child having access to a laptop/ desktop for lessons and tinkering between.
  • I am looking at getting a spare laptop to loan but this isn’t yet confirmed

Safety

  • I have an enhanced DBS
  • I can provide references from both parents and teachers upon request

Lesson Ideas

  • Robotics (ages 6-12): focused around a BBC micro:bit V2: we’ll progress from simple builds such as step counters and reaction games, and build towards a programmable mini car, that your child can keep building and tinkering with independently afterwards.
  • More advanced robotics (dependent on skill and age): using boards such as the ESP32, more complex sensors and learning real prototyping skills and techniques used in industry and throughout creative professions
  • Coding: Scratch, MakeCode, Python, JavaScript, C++ and more. Projects are more independently tailored to your child’s age and level and can move as quickly as appropriate

If interested please send me a message with their age, skill, location and preferred days. Or reply to this just saying that you might be interested, so that I can see how much interest there is.

    • Thanks for the advice.  In the end I left the HDMI cable in the HDMI ARC socket but changed the audio output to PCM(stereo or 5.1) in the virgin menu, did a restart and that did the trick. So double thanks to Ianr.  I did do an AI search but didn't go in depth enough so thanks for doing that. 🤝
