Anyway I'm still reflecting on £3 Billion pounds that road congestion apparently costs London.  This as said is compared to journey times should roads be running freely.

Unless you actually break down what causes congestion and what can be done throwing large numbers around seems pointless.  It needs to be delays that can be avoided and the reasons for these delays.

But these are numbers the London Assembly has "thrown around" so maybe speak to them. They used it as a catalyst to discuss what was causing the congestion in London and there is a whole thread on the output from that London Assembly meeting so maybe refer to that.

  • Thanks 1

You are the first to say that politicians quote selectively.  Yet you do exactly the same.  Read my recent posts and reply to them rather than repeating yourself.  And reply to my earlier points.  That is the nature of debate.

You refer to Yes Minister.  Perhaps Monty Python may be more relevant

Southwark has now extended the deadline for responses to the consultation by another week to Sunday 22 February.

Hard to see the point of creating a  segregated cycle lane of just 250m on Peckham Rye East when cyclists then have to negotiate traffic on other roads for the rest of their journey. Moving the bus stops further up Peckham Rye West to a narrow part of the road means cyclists are put in more danger - trying to overtake stationary buses puts them in direct conflict with oncoming traffic and is already an accident spot. At the moment they can overtake safely at the lights where there is a bus lane.

There are hardly any accidents reported on Peckham Rye East. The danger to cyclists outweighs any benefits, it's worse for all other road users, a waste of money and should be opposed. But great for Southwark Council for raking in fines.   Here's the link again:

I wonder how long it will be before we get the result? Before or after May?

    • My point was in response to this:  "The idea that serving as a local councillor (including dealing with the public, internal party politics - which is always the most vicious where the stakes are lowest, and plenty of unpaid prep work) is a great pathway for careerists and moneygrabbers is utter shite. On a per hour basis you'd be far better off working at Sainsbos."   You could give up your job at sainsbury's and do a councillor's work and be very much better off. Most of these councillors earn this sort of money and still have full time jobs on the side.
    • No. The pool changing rooms are unaffected.   The gym changing rooms (aka dry side) are being refurbished.
    • Thanks for the link Dave. For clarity, the document shows that he receives the standard basic allowance all councillors get and a Senior Responsibility Allowance commensurate with the post he held. He claims no other allowance or any expenses as far as I can see... which makes me wonder what your point might be?
    • At Forrest Hill is there a wall at both ends? Looks like one end is steps on the website.
