Just sharing this email from Southwark for anyone interested in bus travel between ED and central London

Dear all*

We have just launched the first phase of engagement on our Better Bus Southwark project – this is an ambitious programme, in partnership with TfL, to improve travel, and especially bus journeys, on the corridor from London Bridge – Elephant & Castle – Walworth Road – Camberwell Green – Denmark Hill – Goose Green – Lordship Lane. We’ll be looking at journey times, road safety, and your experience of bus travel.

There are multiple ways to get involved at our hub page - https://engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/folders/better-bus-southwark

You can:-

  • Sign up to be kept informed of future developments
  • Complete an online survey sharing your experiences of travel on this route and ideas for improvement – takes about 10 minutes
  • Use map-based surveys for each section of the route to pinpoint areas of concern that you want us to consider

This is just the first phase of engagement, where we want to understand your thoughts and experiences so that we can develop proposals that actually address your needs. The surveys are open until 29 March. Please get involved if you ever travel in this area.

We will be developing a series of in-person activities, including sessions in libraries and pop-up surveying at bus stops on the route – details of these will be promoted on the hub page above.

Having quickly looked at this it is handled in road sections, it seems, so there is no obvious way to input my needs, previously expressed by others after the route was altered, for a re-introduced direct bus between Dulwich/ East Dulwich and Guys, where much of the cancer treatments from King's are outsourced to.

I’ve also just had the email and had a quick look. Maybe a bus route to London Bridge will be an option again. Need to look and respond. No response nothing to give that the powers will be will go for. I know …. Never works for me at work.

@Penguin68 although there is no specific route section for your comments I’d put anything that doesn’t fit in one of their sections, there’s even an anything else, in the general survey - most questions are optional. Alternatively can you be at one of the in person activities. Bus stop drop-in sessions are listed and they indicate they will add more.

I just got this email this morning.

Surely they should have been aware of this need before they changed the 40 route.

However for those in East Dulwich within easy reach of East Dulwich station, the train is a quick and easy option to get to Guys.

Once at London Bridge, it's just down the escalator by the Shard and then a very short walk.

That is assuming the traveller isn't in a wheelchair or has other mobility requirements which requires assistance getting on and off a train, whereas a bus simply extends the ramp and makes it a lot more convenient for the traveller at both ends.

Yes, that's completely true, which of course is another reason why changing the 40 route in the first place was a very bad idea.
