Jamie Younger is the new owner of Franklins. Great to see him back on Lordship lane.
Two fingers up to the idiots that forced him out of the Palmerston.

Excellent news!

I googled and came up with a thread from this forum about Jamie being forced out.

I had posted the link, but when I read the thread I didn't think it was appropriate to post because  It was started by Dulwich Fox, who sadly died last year (R.I.P.), and contained comments by and to him which were not relevant to the actual closure.

Very good news! The Palmerston flourished under Jamie, so Franklins will be in safe hands, I'm sure

Sad to hear about Mike Dulwich Fox he was a local lad born and brought up in the area.

I have to say, I too am upset about the passing of DulwichFox. He was a real local character, who unlike me, managed to stick with ED despite all of the nauseous yuppification of the last three decades.

R.I.P to foxy

As I sat collecting my thoughts in the Bishop at close to midnight after the birth of my first daughter back in 2011, it was DulwichFox who approached me and asked if I was SeanMacGabhann - spoke to him many times over the years (more than once at random on the tiny alfresco bit that used to be outside Tandoori Nights) RIP Mike

That's really sad to hear, I don't think he'd been well for quite some time.

I met him once, quiet and unassuming, very different to his curmudgeonly EDF persona.

One of the Forum's  great characters.

RIP Foxy

Yes he had not been very well for about the last 2 or 3 years but was making some progress, we use to see him down LL getting his shopping and stop and catch up on all matters Ed.

I Pm'd just before Christmas and received no reply which was not like him so I did have concerns about his health but I had no other means of contacting him.

He lived in my road, so I bumped into him quite often, but I knew him as Mick, not Mike.

We originally met at the opening of The Actress. Crikey, how long ago that seems now.

He had a fox in his window 🤣 Not a real one, obviously.

I only found out that he had died because I hadn't seen him around for a while,  so I mentioned it  on our road WhatsApp group, and someone on there told me.

He had been ill for some time, but he was just in the middle of what must have been extremely expensive private  dental treatment (a lot of implants) so I assume his death was sadly unexpected.

    • I’m in exactly the same position.  They badgered me for ages to have a water meter fitted.  I’d prevaricated simply because it’s so tedious dealing with these people but eventually gave in when the communications became increasingly frequent and aggressive and it was done in March 2023. I just assumed I’d then be charged on actual consumption but I received an email this morning with details of the latest price increase and it said, “Since your property doesn’t have a water meter, your bill is calculated in advance based on fixed rates rather than water usage”.  I’m sure they’ve realised I’d be paying much less if they billed me on actual consumption but have not gone out of their way to inform me.  Trawling through their website, for me anyway, is an unutterably tedious chore, but I think I’ll now have to work up the energy over the weekend to pick up the phone on Monday morning and have a word with them.
    • Great Service again from Andy.  Contacted him with a couple of issues with toilet cistern and shower.  He came over and sorted it all out quickly. Good advice given, reasonable charge for the jobs.  Highly recommend Andy!
    • Just seen this.  Your post was a bit unnecessary.  I was simply responding to the previous post that children should be cycling on the pavement. But as you say I know shed loads about transport.  Not to the depths that some go down to the minutia.  Some call me the space cowboy.  Some call me the gangster of love.  I think of myself as the people's poet.  You have to laugh at yourself. Echoing what DKH said, we weren't there, you don't know the parent was making a snide remark, My favourite Dulwich parent story was a few years ago were friends when we were in the Herne garden a few years ago, who let their children run riot.  Bless.  One decided to turn the hose on spraying some poor drinkers.  Now most of us would be mortified, but the friends welcomed their child's creativity.
