there are 2 rides organised for Feb 28th, both longish. Mike K’s murals and ruins ride to Lesnes Abbey and a new ride celebrating 200 years of Universities in London led by Bruce.
:Meet at Cutty Sark next to the Foot Tunnel entrance. Start at 10:00am and return to Cutty Sark at approximately 13:30pm.  Mike K. leading. Ouwards mostly along the Thames Path passing the O2, the Greek-inspired statues in North Greenwich and the Thames Barrier, eventually reaching Galleon’s Reach.  Galleon’s Reach holds historical significance as it was the place where the Princess Alice sank, costing 900 live in September of 1878. We will then join the Green Chain Path towards Thamesmead murals and stop for group photos before proceeding on to Lesnes Abbey ruins for a coffee break. We will return by the Ridgeway path to Woolwich and follow Cycleway14 (mostly Thames Path) back to Greenwich.
Feb 28th,  Ride 2. A Ride to Celebrate 200 years of University Education in London < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-ride-to-celebrate-200-years-of-university-education-in-london-tickets-1983555748640?aff=oddtdtcreator  >
In February 1826 University College London (UCL) was founded. This was rapidly followed by Kings College and later the merger in 1907 of several Victorian colleges formed  Imperial College. This ride will visit each of the main campuses and maybe learn a little of their histories and rivalries on the way.  Meet 9.30 am at the Southwark Gateway Needle, south side of London Bridge. Ride across the City to UCL in Bloomsbury. Next visit Kings on the Aldwych and then ride across London via Hyde Park to Imperial in South Kensington.  Return to London Bridge, crossing the river on Vauxhall Bridge. 24km (15 mile) loop. Plan to be back at London Bridge for 1.30 pm giving time for stops at each campus and a coffee stop. Bruce leading. General Info. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • confused by the question?
    • My point was in response to this:  "The idea that serving as a local councillor (including dealing with the public, internal party politics - which is always the most vicious where the stakes are lowest, and plenty of unpaid prep work) is a great pathway for careerists and moneygrabbers is utter shite. On a per hour basis you'd be far better off working at Sainsbos."   You could give up your job at sainsbury's and do a councillor's work and be very much better off. Most of these councillors earn this sort of money and still have full time jobs on the side.
    • No. The pool changing rooms are unaffected.   The gym changing rooms (aka dry side) are being refurbished.
    • Thanks for the link Dave. For clarity, the document shows that he receives the standard basic allowance all councillors get and a Senior Responsibility Allowance commensurate with the post he held. He claims no other allowance or any expenses as far as I can see... which makes me wonder what your point might be?
