The Ben Oakley Gallery is an award-winning Contemporary Art Gallery opening in 2010 as a platform for emerging artists. Offering a freedom and encouragement of expression to the artists and breaking down boundaries as well as welcoming a diverse demographic. This in turn created an accessible space for all, attracting more established artists, first time buyers and experienced collectors alike. Ben Oakley was recognised for this approach and in turn was nominated to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and subsequently appointed onto the RSA Arts Board.

The Gallery has worked closely with Ray Richardson for over 10 years, and we are thrilled to be presenting our inaugural exhibition in the New Gallery space No 20 North Cross Road East Dulwich SE22. We welcome you all to experience one of the country’s leading contemporary figurative oil painters in his latest Show 

‘London Diamond’.

 

Ray Richardson was born in Woolwich SE London in 1964 he graduated from St Martins School of Art in 1984 and Goldsmiths College of Art in 1987.His work is held by prestigious institutions like the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum

Richardson's recognition stems from his distinctive paintings of gritty London life, earning him comparisons to ‘The Martin Scorsese of Oil’ and his inclusion in major collections alongside accolades such as a BP Portrait Award Commendation and British Council Awards, solidifying his status as a significant contemporary British artist known for his cinematic, working-class subject

Richardson recently gained further attention for ‘Estuary English’ an impressive painting, (and in the upcoming show London Diamond) when it was part of the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery London winning him a commendation.

The artist will be present on the opening night

 Plus a public engagement screen-printing day on the 

Saturday 28^th March 12:30-4pm with Carolyn Nicoll from Thames-Side Print Studio and the artist.
