the hubbie and two smalls were walking home from the common yesterday

when a lit cigarette stub came flying out of the 1st floor window of our

neighbours and landed a foot away from hubbie.

quite apart from whether it was deliberate (i don't think it was --

had it been me walking by then i would think it might be, but not tosh)

isn't it a really bad idea to throw lit cigs out the window? and if

you agree that it is, then do you think he should have said something?

(i.e. knocked and the door and said something like "i'm sure you don't

realise that your cig has just jumped out the window").

i tried something similar once when i saw a teenage girl (in school uniform)

drop a drink box on the ground, smash it with her foot, and then leave it

there, about two foot from a bin. i picked up and said "oops, i think you

dropped this" in as nice a way possible. she nearly kicked the ~*@" out of me!

nobody else at the bus stop supported me or stood up for me... but then when

the girl sauntered off a few said "god, kids these days" "what are her parents

like" etc. leaving me with the distinct impression that they agreed that what

she had done was unacceptable but that what i had done was perhaps equally so.

i was also once in a car with a guy who pulled over another driver b/c

the other driver was drunk... sort of like a "citizens arrest" but without the

arrest.

how far do we acceptably take social responsibility???

ooof serious questions - is that a good idea today?

I applaud your willingness to stand up and be counted - the scene you describe at the bus stop illustrates the real problem in the country - everyone is waiting for someone else to do their work for them

"When I were a lad etc etc" bad parents and kids were plentiful, but the wider world of adults were not afraid to compensate. Obviously people are going to worry about more violent repercussions these days but most problems would fade significantly if more people were like you I reckon shosh

good point about serious questions this morning...

certainly SOMEONE at the luau i attended last night

should have shown some social responsibility (or at

least some sympathy) and stepped in when i was dancing

badly and drunkenly (pina coladas go down soooo easily)

in a grass skirt to the barenaked ladies with a....

(shudder shudder... in fact i'm now feeling a little sick)

high school musical microphone in my hand.

worse still, i didn't even know the words to the song but

i'm pretty sure i was pretending i did...

barenaked ladies??? ooooh dear

strangely enough, I was just today catching up with Doug Stanhope's blog where he mentions his embarrassing possession of same

Stanhope re: CDs

specifically:

"?Long Tall Glasses? by Leo Sayers is a great song and even a music snob might let you get away with it for it?s obscurity. But, if you knew that I had not one but three BareNakedLadies songs shuffling around in there like some Russian Roulette party fauz pas waiting to happen?"

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
