Refunds for in app purchases made by 7 year old?

Hello

My daughter was given a Google Nexus 7 tablet for her birthday. My ex husband loaded stuff onto it for her (a paid for book/film etc) then deleted his bank details. As far as I remember I have never input my bank details into her tablet but it seems I must have done at some point as have now been stung with a bill of nearly ?40 for in app purchases on various kids game. I've now put a password/pin protection thingie on it (there wasn't one on there before, stupid me) so she can't (i hope) do it again. But my question is do I have any chance at all of getting a refund? - I can't get one from Google, they say I have to go to each individual 'seller' - I highly doubt I will get anything back as essentially it's my own fault (though there's no password/pin protection put on there when I think there should be) but wondered if anyone had had any success at all with getting their money back in situations like this?
