Hello all

Any tips for draught-proofing an old Victorian front door? I've tried the self-adhesive foam stuff which has made things slightly better and am considering getting a length of copper strip. Has anyone used this? Any other advice gratefully received! Am not in a financial position to replace the door itself...

We use masking tape round all the door frame and over key holes, as well as a draught excluder brush strip at the bottom, and a stuffed draught excluder once we're in. Masking tape is good cos it doesn't ruin the paint but it stuffs up the gaps brilliantly!
We have a thick door curtain which we draw shut in the evenings. It's on a track fixed to the top of the door, and the pleating covers the gap at the top of the door and it's a bit wider than the actual door so it covers the side gaps too. It's wedged in place at the bottom with a draught excluder when everyone is in. You can lose a lot of heat through the glass and letterbox.

Hi Hawley

I best ways to draught proof a Victoria door are,

Draught excluder strip around the door frame

Draught excluder strip at the bottom of the door on the inside

Draught excluder for the letter box

Key hole cover.

Approx cost of material from a diy store should be ?50

This should be place on exteriors doors

I hope this solve your draught problem

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.

    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
