Antony Gormley manhole cover stolen

Until a few days ago, this unique and functional piece of art was located in Maxted Road but sadly no more. Have to confess I wasn't aware of it, that line from Big Yellow Taxi comes to mind

Gormley highlighted the piece recently, as part of an art tour (with map and podcast) and there was an article appeared in the Independent. I hadn't heard of it either before I saw the Indie article. Must admit, my first thought was that by drawing attention to it, it may not last long, but I did hope to be proven wrong. There really are some scumbags out there:
