A memory that is saved in the mind, and can only be recalled by the person who retained it.

that is if you have the time to listen to the recollections of far passed times, whilst you sit.

Old films can be shown providing the projector is still compatible to project it on a screen.

these can be viewed as they were caught at the time, as they were then and not as today seen.

Learning to write with a steel nib pen, dipped in ink to trace at the right angle on a paper,

blobs of ink all down the desk, single letters to start with, then join together that came later.

Would this ever be retained for the future? The pen became a Fountain pen ink retained within,

the pen changed its style, become a Biro ink filled, disposable pen once came dry put in the bin.

Pictures taken once kept in an album, with corners sticky once licked held them on their page,

they looked nice new in black and white, but in time changed to a fading curling edge image.

Those Albums mostly large, with photos becoming loose or free the sticky glue drying out,

have come a thing of the past, or banished to the attic, cellar or never once more thought about.

Sounds recorded on Dictaphone, Records on vinyl can only be heard if a machine survives,

to hear the sounds recorded from long ago, remind us of how it sounded early in our lives.

Tape on Cassette players are now extinct, Betamax or VHS, tapes survive without machines,

the size of the tape dictated that it became smaller, looking back now have become ?Has Beens?.

A camera might have once snapped a scene, but that cameras film has changed in it?s size,

to show it how could you, without a camera of that size, to find one now would be a surprise.

A Brownie Box Camera of our youth, seems for removed from the Video Camera now in use,

we can now have our own show in our home, the sound and picture made for the latest views.

Can we leave a memory that will survive in a form to give some small interest of the reader,

a memory once retained might not be thought to be of any value to others only to himself.

Why does a memory stay in the mind, it must be of some interest to the keeper then when stored,

no use saving a memory of a meal we had on a certain day, it?s just a thing that can be ignored.

Shorty, nice to see you again.

I dunno but I have stories from my old nan about the old east end that I pass onto my kids frequently, they probably think, boring old git but she used to tell them to me, and I loved hearing them, and some stuck and some might stick with them. I think you have to be a certain type of person to be interested/pass them on but we have to try or the 'little' stories of ours go.

Hope you are well fella.

    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
    • The Dutch are addicted to New Year fireworks and spent €130million this year on them. However,  sales to individuals will be banned as from this year and celebrations will be organised by local and city councils. I have Dutch friends and for them, this can’t come soon enough. However, at least there it’s concentrated  on one night. Here, it’s never ending, any excuse to make a noise is seized upon with gusto. In addition to the annual celebrations, add birthdays, weddings, engagements, divorces, christenings, BBQs, etc etc. I dare say you can funerals to that list as well. Yesterday it started mid-afternoon and just carried on until the early hours. In the past, I’ve been woken up at 4am. Anyyone who doesn’t like it can go hang and you can ignore completely the  effects on people’s animals and wildlife. Don’t hold your breath about anything being done here, however.
