Fixing doors and door handles- recommendation

I had three problems, dodgy door handle, a dodgily hung door and a front door that needed replacing. For the door handle I got my handyman to have a look and he told me to get a new barrel and then he would fix it. Well, first I got the wrong sized barrel and then when I got the right one he didn't fix it properly and all that cost a fair bit in my time, wasted barrel and paying for handyman, so I got another handyman, highly recommended on these threads, to look at it. He checked it out and then started to explain to me all the myriad things wrong with it, to which I wanted to scream, 'It's a Door handle!! Just fix the blasted thing!', & decided to try elsewhere, fed up of all the time it was taking.

By chance I had to go into the locksmith on Lordship Lane and I asked if they fixed handles too and they said yes, at ?60 an hour, at which I nearly choked on my coffee. But, being desperate at this point I got them round (Scott, to be precise) and he had a look, and said he could fix it, no problem. Music to my ears, so, since, in fact none of them worked properly I thought I might as well get them all done in one fell swoop and he said he could do the lot in 2 hours. The handles were too heavy and all pointed downwards so I needed 10 new handles and I asked him to just select some decent cheap ones for me, because frankly, door handle catalogues are not of interest to me, and that saved me time also. He then came back in his van with EVERYTHING handle-related one could possibly need and polished off the lot in the 2 hours as promised. No having to disappear off to the shops for screws, barrels etc. etc- all in the van!! So, although I initially almost choked on the fee I have to admit this was money well spent and saved me many hours of exasperation faffing around with head-scratching handymen. I think they?re moved now, but it?s Callow locksmiths.

One of the doors wouldn't stay closed, though, because it wasn?t hung properly so I got Fahren, who I found on the forum, round to fix it. Using a new person from off here is always a stressful experience (Is he who he says he is?? Am I going to be ripped off Again? etc etc) but in this case it was a job well done for a fair price- so I got him back to put a new front door on, also well done. Very helpful guy who is nice to deal with. He does lots of other stuff too. 07908 679340

    • Greens have some mad polices and I am still trying to work out if it is true that the leader of the party thought he could hypnotize women to have larger breasts 🤷‍♂️ country is in a real state at the min and all party’s have a part to play in that. what the future holds who knows but it is worrying.
    • A stellar win for the Greens in Gorton and Denton, no doubt. But by-elections are funny beasts. Labour's strength traditionally has been in its ground game. Legions of canvassers over many years in many seats usually means that they are best placed to 'get out the vote' on election day. I can't quite believe that the Greens have enough data, or people, to wrest control of the council from Labour.
    • Was a regular haunt of mine for many years and had a lot of fun times in there and some marvellous food down the years. Though, admittedly I spent most of my time in there doing some serious boozing. In recent times I've been a less frequent visitor to this fine establishment. I seriously hope it doesn't change too much. It's always had a good vibe in there and that's down to Tim and Rod and all of the staff who have worked there over the past 26 years.
    • Tom came round today and did a very good job advising on picture and mirror placements, and hanging several pieces. Will definitely ask him back to do a few more once we have them framed.
