My usual tennis partner is unavailable for now so I am considering joining a tennis club so I can carry on playing regularly. The problem is that I don't know anybody who goes to one so I am worried about forking out for membership fees but then not having anybody to play with. I have young child and also work so my time is quite limited and I can't hang out and do the club social thing. I am also quite shy and I can't imagine how i'd set up a game without knowing anybody. I've never belonged to a tennis club so I am not sure what they can offer and the ones I have contacted have been quite vague about finding tennis partners once you become a member. I just want to play locally once a week or every other week. None of my friends are tennis players so I can't ask them to join with me. Any advice or recommendations?

You can come along and give us a try if you want before committing yourself, we have social sessions on Sunday morning from 10 am and midweek evenings, Weds and Thurs 6.30-8 pm, when you just turn up and play doubles with whoever is there. If neither of these suit and you have a particular day/time in mind, let me know and I'll ask at the club

    • Hi JenJenJen, Southwark Council have targets for turning around "minor voids" which are council properties with minimal work to be able to re-let them to new tenants. As it is consistently missing these targets and taking 3 x times longer than the target, that past councils did meet, they have just relaxed the targets to the level they are currently achieving. Clearly these empty homes are empty much longer than I suspect you, and definitely I, and the new tenants, would like.  Big fan of More or Less. But their reporting is at a country wide level for empty homes not down to individual councils.
