Hello.

I have a two-year old and a two month old and have been trying to avoid getting a double buggy (no space) by carrying the little one in a baby bjorn carrier.

Problem: he's a huge baby (16lb already at just two months) and it's doing my back in.

What are the best carriers for a large baby? I know some people use slings etc for a year or more so they must be able to take the weight. Are the "active" baby bjorn carriers better?

Any advice much appreciated.

Ergo is great, or beco or manduca are the same principle.

Also a friend had a babyhawk for her heavy baby which was really comfy. I would def recommend a trip to the sling library (google south East London sling library) as sometimes the right sling can depend on the size of the parent as well as the baby.

I'm also planning to sell my hop-tye which is a mei tai style carrier but you'd be best to try it first. Pm me if you want to try it (I also have an ergo and a baba sling which you can try on, not selling but it would give you and idea of fit if yu can't get to the sling library)

First son was very big as a baby and I carried him til over two in the following:

Ergo

Beco Gemini

Beco Butterfly

Manduca (personal favourite, currently use full time with daughter, nearly 11m)

Boba 3G (think there's a 4G now)

I occasionally use a girasol woven with my daughter

Have heard v good things about:

Connecta Solarweave

Ergo performance

Babyhawk

Beco Soleil

JPMBB - stretchy woven hybrid

Sure Emily at the excellent SLSL would have great further suggestions.

Btw you will find any decent woven wrap or soft structured carrier a total dream after a Bjorn, seriously you are going to love it! I have a 2.7 month gap and no double buggy, youngest has only ever been carried and I use a bugaboo bee for toddler on occasional long day trips.

    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
    • I haven't used them myself but I noticed recently that "Snoots" in Forest Hill is going unlimited primary care for £33/month, so basically a subscription. Easy access on the 176 from East Dulwich. I have no idea what it includes so read the contract! It's a chain but only 5 branches so not a mega corporate. 🤷‍♂️ https://www.snootsvet.com/find-us
