juno
I like this Spanish Apple cake from the baby led weaning cookbook - uses olive oil rather than butter - http://baby-led.rhgdsrv.co.uk/blog/?p=416 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42070-whats-your-familys-favourite-food/page/2/#findComment-734176 Share on other sites
sylviamaria
There are plenty of oil based cakes and biscuit recipes to choose from.for example Carrot cake (without the frosting). Also Greek and Italian dry biscuits with oil and flour as a base and flavoured with cinnamon, fennel etc. The sweetness oftn comes from the flavourings and dried fruit as opposed to the sugar. srisky
I have been put off by oil based cakes but are they actually healthier than those made with butter or margarine? I imagine olive oil has too much flavour for many cakes and a flavourless oil like sunflower is often used. snowboarder
Hard to tell what is healthy/unhealthy these days but certainly in our house margarine is banned as being basically closer to plastic than food - http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/mar/23/everything-you-know-about-unhealthy-foods-is-wrong?CMP=twt_guThe spanish apple cake is nice - I've made it before and am certainly not a baker!! Worth a try. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42070-whats-your-familys-favourite-food/page/2/#findComment-734198 Share on other sites
Mustard
Yogurt and olive oil cakes are also nice. Quite a few recipes out there. Just don't use a very strongly flavoured olive oil, use a mild one.http://chocolateandzucchini.com/archives/2005/10/yogurt_cake.php Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42070-whats-your-familys-favourite-food/page/2/#findComment-734237 Share on other sites
