Can anyone recommend a structural engineer to look at cracks and advise on cause ?

Is it normal practice for insurance brokers to request engineers report ,photos ,quotes for repair to accompany claim ?

Cracks have reappeared 2 1/2 years on since works carried out to correct subsidence under previous claim - when inspection carried out by firm appointed by brokers with no prior submission by me from structural engineer .

Try Dave Godden. If he can't help you, he'll know someone who can... http://goddenstructural.com/about.html

I would expect one if it's a structural problem. Are costs of a survey reclaimable under your insurance policy?

Maybe the conditions of your insurance policy changed after the previous claim?...

Thanks Red Devil . Maybe the conditions did change ,don't recall any notification but perhaps it was in some small print which I should have read .

Will look at link for Dave Godden and ask brokers if I can reclaim cost of report .

Thanks again .

    • Typically the way 'family run businesses' operate is either to have family members continue the business, or to sell on, either as a site (in this instance) or as a going concern. Either which way this is the way the owners create a 'pension' from the business. The number of suggestions as to alternatives makes me feel that the market for small repairing garages locally may be well served, so selling on the site makes the best financial sense for the owners. It's a sign not of the times but of normal business realities.
