intexasatthe moment
Tried a system restore to a couple of weeks before yesterdays " critical update " and tho this unfroze touchpad and cursor ,all my desktop shortcuts no longer worked and clicking on them resulted in an error message ,something about " unable to find locale data ,please re install " .I've never had this with a system restore before and it made me nervous ,so I undid the system restore . But now I'm back to a frozen cursor and touchpad .Anyone any ideas as to how I can unfreeze cursor and touchpad ?I'm not very savvy . Salsaboy
Do you use Google Chrome as your browser as this is known to have the issues that you're having. PokerTime
You could try reinstalling the touchpad and cursor drivers. Go into control panel - device manager - mouse and pointing devices.Right click on touchpad - unistall. The touchpad will then show with a yellow triangle - right click again - install (or it might say search for drivers). That should work. DulwichFox
The Mouse-Pad can be disabled from the Keyboard. Common combination is Function Key Fn + F9 or Fn + F3 Toggling these combos with enable/disable the mouse-pad DulwichFox. the-e-dealer
Usability is not one of the cornerstones of Windows 8. I have seen seasoned techies trying to start a program reduced to tears. intexasatthe moment
Thank you all . Dulwich Fox have noted those combinations ,I think I have sometimes inadvertenly hit the Fn button .Do those combos just affect the touchpad or would they also affect the cusor ? In the end ,having run a routine maintenance ( and noted that on my settings for this I did not have the " wake my computer up at the scheduled time " button ticked ) things seem ok .On a different note whatever activates highlighting and correcting of incorrect spelling ,and whatever automatically makes a webaddress appear as a link ( as opposed to something that has to be copied into address bar ) have been disabled .Predates other issue .
