We, along with 3 year old, are thinking of a 2 week holiday in June in Sweden or similar taking in some city and countryside. I have in my minds eye a little cabin by a lake with some time either side in Gothenburg or another city.

I found this english site, http://www.sweden-holidays.com/, with listed properties but there are so many areas to choose from I wondered if any wise forumite would have any advice or experience of an amazing Scandi family holiday

any adivce appreciated

Thanks

Oland is fantastic, quaint, beautiful countryside, clean beaches and very family oriented. Went and stayed with family last year with our 3 year old and he loved it. There is a theme park of which I cannot remember the name but its the only one in the area. Its heaven as its one price for the child and parents go free. It has mini trucks to drive around roads with crossings and traffic lights, mini go karts and bikes etc. Its where a lot of swedish families have country homes that live in the city. Goteland is also lovely but further away. We flew into denmark and drove for five hours to reach Oland and the drive was easy and lovely. On the way back we stayed in the tivoli hotel in denmark for two nights which finished the holiday off very nicely. Camping is big in sweden with lots for the children to do, very safe and sites are usually by beautiful beaches. It is expensive in sweden to eat but food is lovely.

Hope that helps.

Hi Susan,

You will have a wonderful time in Sweden, it is a very child friendly place. On the west coast where I am born and bread there are so many wonderful places, you cant really go wrong. The island of Marstrand outside Gothenburg is gorgeous and there are several other islands in the Gothenburg archepelago which are all amazing. If you have questions about certain places or areas please PM and I will be happy to answer.

Another advantage if you are based in the proximity of Gothenburg you would have the option of taking the ferry or coach over Denmark for a day or a few days stay. The ferry (which for kids is an adventure in itself) would take you to Fredrikshavn and from there you could easily get to Skagen or Lokken with amazing beaches. I would really recommend this with small children.

    • What is your beef with me ? Why are you asking rhetorical questions?  fighting me but excusing reform? have a look in the mirror  you’ve lost your way
    • I don't need you to tell me to 'fight against' racism.  I know what it looks it like, thank you.  And China would be our enemy whether we were in Europe or not (and has been for a long time), so that's immaterial.  I remember covering an EDL march 12 years ago, when there was a Cons-Lib Dem coalition, so the idea that this is a new problem is rubbish. BUT Reform is doing an excellent job of galvanising a minority in reaction to smug liberals like you, who blame the electorate's collective ignorance for all the country's demons.  What right have you for a moral mandate?
    • Both Labour and Conservatives can remove the threat of a Reform government by making making two major policy promises. And these are .......... (1) categorically state that they will take Britain out of the ECHR and (2) Undertake to remove any new small boat arrivals to Rwanda or wherever else. Reform is basically a single issue party and adopting (1) & (2) would send Reform into obscurity. The country has had enough of our judiciary making a gold-plated interpretation of the ECHR statutes.
    • You fight against by not pretending. By calling it what it is. Instead of slyly pretending they are not racist “actually”  recognise what the country is facing and say “no” why do you even need to ask the question?
