I need a new budget bathroom! advice??

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping for some advice and bathroom fitters!

I have a very limited budget... As in I don't really have one, it just needs to be as cheap as possible and still be reasonable quality.

I need a corner bath that actually fits (unlike the one that's there now!), shower fixing, taps, new sink and tiling.

Does anyone have ideas about the cheapest way to go about it? Shall I buy bath, sink, etc from somewhere like b and q? Could I ask whoever is going to do the installation for me to help me with the measuring? (after the measurements I took and used to buy kitchen units I'd rather someone more qualified measured the bathroom.......!)

Do bathroom fitters usually do tiling aswell?

Will they rip out and get rid of old stuff or would I do that first?

Thanks so much for any help and advice..... I feel like a complete kid with this! I have no idea at all what I'm doing and with every penny mattering I really don't want to get it wrong.

Thanks again

Tulsie

I've had good experiences using www.victorianplumbing.co.uk (not Victoria Plumb). B&Q stuff is not great quality.

Surely measuring yourself shouldn't be a problem, as we're not talking about units which need to fit to together snugly like a fitted kitchen. You could always ask a friend for a second opinion.

There are plenty of bathroom fitters who do both tiling and plumbing. Given your lack of confidence, this might be better than getting a separate plumber and tiler.

You'll save a bit of money by ripping out the old suite yourself. If the connections have isolation valves on them then you won't even need any plumbing knowledge. Might be useful to know that you can tile over existing wall tiles... it's a common thing to do, and a real time saver if the existing tiles are very stubborn.

You can go to one of the local bathroom shops and be open with them about your budget i.e. you want the best quality stuff you can get for not much money. Bells on Lordship Lane and Potter Perrin in Streatham are both good shops and have or can get a very wide variety of stuff at all price points.

Hi,

We fit bathroom regularly -full fit (including plumbing, tiling, electrics, moving walls, plastering, painting, etc)around ED.

WE often recommend this website if the client is not looking for a luxury one the example is for a whole set ,so you would need tiles and perhaps light, fan if needed ,accessories ,etc. There might be something in clearance ,but this was a quick search ,the also have next day delivery which is very useful.

Let me know if you have further questions.

We used a combination of Bells, Bromley & Ellis in Brixton and Ebay, where you can pick up a lot of last season's taps etc for a fracton of the RRP. By way of recommendation, we employed Iliana's company (she of the post above) to carry out the work and are very pleased with the end result.
all the above 'advice' is bollo. you can buy any old crap from B & Q or 'bathstore' but just try and get it fitted properly. The 'sales' team in places like this try to cloud customers into believing that any 'ould edjit' could fit it but no it don't work like that.

He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
    • If you mean the one outside the church going towards Peckham, it still had the closed sign on it this morning, but as there are no road works there, I'm sure some of the drivers will stop there on request.  The stop outside the chippy coming from Peckham is closed as there are road works in front of it.  The 4 way traffic lights are in operation.., causing a lot of congestion.
