Hello all,

I'm looking to get some fitness back and lose weight and i usually fail because i run out of motivation to keep going so thought why not try and hook up with some other people who want to do the same and maybe we can help each other keep going.

So nothing serious or strenuous...no 5 mile runs or 40mile cycle rides..(i wouldn't be able to at the moment!!)

I'm thinking more along the lines of a 1hr walk/intermittent jogging maybe around Dulwich park for example, or an odd 1hr cycle, like to play a bit of tennis and badminton or frisbee in the park. Just simple and easy stuff for now.

It would be nice to get a little group going maybe but happy to do things with individuals also.

I'm a 30yr easy going male who works in Lordship Lane and lives near Hornimans/Honor Oak and am free evenings/weekends.

Happy to hear from guys and girls of any age.

Regards,

Simon

Hi, sounds like a good idea, I'm much the same fitness and motivation wise, 30 something and female so having some people to go out with be good. I play badminton, but not tennis (unless you count really really badly)

Only thing is my work can be somewhat unpredicatable so I can only really commit to weekends in advance. But if you get a group going I'd be happy to join weekday things too if I turn out to be available.

You could join the new runners planning on running around Peckham Rye on a Tuesday evening - it seems like a mixed group of abilities so sure there would be someone to start off with.

I'm rubbish at tennis but wouldn't mind a knockabout every so often - hmm, do I still own a tennis racquet?!?

Frisbee I can cope with or, if we could get a bigger group together, rounders. I'm an NFL fan so I also quite like tossing an American football around in a park.

Weeknights aren't great for me either - particularly since the daylight hours are shrinking. But could do weekends - although not the next two - I'm running a half marathon next weekend and going up to Scotland the following one.

EDIT: Just realised that makes me sound a little like a fitness freak. I'm not... honestly! This time 18 months ago, I couldn't run a mile.

    • If you read the article posted above, it is all very carefully worded. However I've found this: https://uknip.co.uk/news/uk/uk-news/peckham-rye-park-attack-man-seriously-injured-august-2025/
    • Angela Rayner had this country at her feet but as soon as I saw that photo of her lounging about in the kayak off her new seaside home, vaping and drinking!
    • This is horrible to hear about. We used to get daily Police patrols on foot & even regular patrols on horseback in the area. I know our local station had some bad eggs, but the officers I came across in the area back then were all a fantastic bunch. Sadly nowadays the Met's presence is non-existent, bar the weekly walk from the SNT. I hope something gets done, arrests made and the victim some genuine support and counselling.
    • Two wrongs don't make a right. Labour ran on a manifesto of "we aren't like them" and "we are different" and"you can trust us/we will restore faith in politics". They are doing nothing to convince anyone that any of those promises are being met - they are letting everyone down. u-turning on everything and are fast-tracking the doomsday scenario of a Reform government. Even the runway on the "it's all the Tories fault" is running out. I dislike politicians because they cannot be trusted and Rayner just highlighted that with ribbons on. She should have been so careful after the focus on the electoral roll issues she had with the house in Ashton-under-Lyne and then under a year later this comes up. Clearly the advice she took included a recommendation to take proper advice that she failed to do - that's just daft and the most galling thing is that she didn't just resign when this came up - she tried to spin out of it but must have known she was toast. Trust is fast being eroded. I desperately want Labour and Starmer to fix this because the alternative it too scary to think about but the way things are going they are fast-tracking Farage into No.10. Labour are letting us all down.
