Hi,

I am new to this forum. I am transferring my son to St Anthony's all forms filled in and handed to school. We live in Peckham but planning to move if my son secures a place. he is 7 years old so in year 3 at the moment. Is it likely he will get a place at all?

Thanks for your help.

There is a fair amount of movement but there is also a waiting list which almost certainly isn't empty. The main school office will be best to advise. The closer you live, the better as one of the admissions criteria is proximity to the school. You may be better to move before he gets a place rather than waiting until afterwards, if the place is the priority. Good luck.

Things may have changed but when I was looking at St Anthonys three years ago, the receptionist laughed me out off the phone for daring to ask if they accept non-church goers.

She told me that she couldn't remember the last time they took local children who weren't the right religion.

Unless you go to the right church you may find that applying to this school is a a waste of time. You may find it more useful to look at John Donne (sp?) or one of the local primaries that actually do take all children from the local area, not the ones that just take the state funding and then discriminate against the children on their doorstep.

Our children now go to the independent schools in Dulwich which I can't recommend highly enough - they are brilliant. But the catch is obvious!

Thanks for your reply, but we are actually catholic. priest has already signed the form, and we are now on the waiting list.

    • As said, why are you not eating humble pie for a non-story? I expect that scores of landlords are unaware or made mistakes in this territory.  And this is not just the Chancellor but a married couple.  It feels like you and others are taking joy in demonising her. The only question would be is the house suitable for renting out?  I expect it is, and if not that is up to Southwark to take action rather than keyboard warriors.  The only surprises are the expense of licensing - surely time for a thread on "is licensing a money maker for local authorities?".  I'm being facetious.  And that the cost of rental, which feels fairly reasonable based on this area. By all means go after rogue landlords.  Be my guest.  I was horrified to see some of the properties rented in London and beyond by family members.  Not all bad. Oh and another question.  Haven't I got better things to do than comment on this 'no story here' thread?  😁
