Eco Roofing? Advice please....

Ok guys,

So I need your opinion on this....Im thinking of getting a Green/Eco roof however I'm not sure whether or not this is a good idea? Have any of you had one or thinking about getting one yourselves?

Apparently they last 3x as long as a normal roof and they decrease water drainage by 80%. I quite like the idea of having a garden on my roof; it would be very aesthetically pleasing and fun to be a part of unlike a normal roof however it can be a bit pricey! How much is too much???

Can any of you shed some light on this????

Thanks :)

Heh there - I have a green roof and am really pleased with it. I got a little stuck between the person putting the roofing in, the person providing the roofing system and the chap putting the plants in. SO I would just make sure you have one overall contractor who can do the whole thing and give you one guarantee.

I also went for grass and wild flowers which is a little more high maintenance but looks very cool compared to sedum.

Hope this helps - J

I was just wondering if there was any red tape with regards to planning and us being in Dulwich, i know they can be a little fussy with the overall 'look' of our houses.

Im really in two minds about it :s

Although they do look like a lot of fun and my kids would love it...

Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
