best museums etc for dressing up

Miss Oi (age 4) and her cousin (5) are really into dressing up and 'the olden times' and my sister and I would love to take them to a museum or similar when they can do this to their heart's content. Needs to be in London (not necessarily central but not Kent, for example) as sister and niece will be coming in from out of town.

I saw from the V&A website that a number of rooms there have dressing up, so that's a start, but any other recommendations would be very gratefully received!

I've not been myself as mine are too young, but I've heard fantastic things about the activity Sundays at the Roysl Opera House:

As an aside, I'd be wary of promising too much. Museums' dressing up stuff is often either knackered or missing. And I would include the V&A in that!

Ooh, that's a good tip, simonethebeaver, I've not seen that one advertised before! Think we might try that over the summer holidays.

Oimissus - another option is the Museum of Childhood - they often have dressing-up stuff there (though as simone says, it's a bit battered). For some reason one time we went there were loads of vegetable costumes, so there exists a number of photos of me dressed as a giant parsnip that I hope will never be seen in public.

Hall Place interactive room has some dressing up stuff (masks, hats) but is also really interesting from an 'olden times' perspective - the building itself, displays, toys, drawers to open etc. The Quentin Blake exhibit is nice too.

Polka Children's Theatre in Wimbledon has a dressing up box.

Probably not a whole afternoon's activity but if you combined it with a show it would be a fun day out.

This place is great - v restricted opening hours but the Victorian lessons are great and there is LOTS of dressing up.
