Ozymodo
Apologies for somewhat trivial post but I am looking to get a couple of walls rebuilt at our house in E Dulwich. I am not 100% sure though what the stone is that the houses are often constructed with in the area. I have attached an example of a house which is made of the same stone that we need - can anyone tell me? Many thanks in advance. kford
It's known as London Stock brickwork. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_stock_brickYou can buy them as reclaimed or a new version, which might look a bit too clean and light. TJ
Reclaimed cost up to ?1 per brick so is not cheap, but looks so much better if you are trying to match to an existing building and should add what ever you spend extra to the value of the work so you won't lose out. Sue
If you google London stock bricks you will find loads of suppliers of reclaimed bricks :)I just did because I thought London stock bricks also came in red, but seems I was wrong and that only the yellow ones are known as London stock bricks. The Red Bricks found around the area are likely to be Sand Faced Flettons. My old Flat at the top of Dunstans Rd, was made of those. Heber P&F
We had a new front wall built in London Stock bricks and to keep the cost down a bit we used half reclaimed and half new. Our brickie did a lovely job laying them in such a way as the new ones blended in with the old.....
