Continuing the awesome kitchen / which work top theme, I wondered what the thoughts are on flooring?

Our extension is at floor level so far, currently the underfloor heating is all in place with concrete on top. I "think" I want a natural stone floor, large irregular sized slabs that are creamy in colour - not uniform colour (no idea what material this is so need to research).

My current thinking is to have solid floor all the way through with the exception of the living room which is currently carpeted. We have 3 dogs and two children so thought this would be the easiest way to keep it all clean.

Do you think this would be too much? Any recommendations on type of stone (or other material) and good suppliers? Going to need to buy quite a large quantity if doing most of downstairs the same.

Also, any thoughts on cream? Does it show the dirt?

I've had a black slate floor before which although lovely showed all the dirt immediately, quarry tiles were good for keeping clean but I def want something flagstone sized.....

Any ideas, suggestions, experience greatly received :)

Thank you

Clare
