working on piece about the changing nature of households/families in UK and looking for people who fit these particular scenarios for interview/photo shoot....(it's a 'nice' monthly magazine, copy approval given)

So, if you are:

part of a (male) gay couple who have entered into a civil partnership

are a couple whose grown up kids have moved back to the family home for financial reasons - can't afford rent, saving up for deposit on property etc (if you're the 'grown up' who has moved back home please get in touch too)

you are a woman in your forties or fifties and you live alone

You are a stay at home dad - you've given up your job/put your career on hold in order to stay home and look after the kids whilst your partner goes out to work

Many thanks

Emc

Hi

Yes of course (latest stats show that there are now 7 million people living alone in UK and just as likely to be men as women) but the reason I am asking for a woman is because,in general, we tend to only feature women's stories in the mag (as it's a women's mag)

However we're looking for a gay (male) couple because it seems that more gay men have entered into civil partnerships than gay women so is more reflective of what is going on.

To be fair to emc, single mothers is hardly a recent demographic trend and their share of households has remained static since the 1980s.

Emc I think that a major demographic change that hasn't been fully thought through yet is the fact that the average age of becoming a mum for the first time is rising rapidly and especially so among the middleclasses....check out all the 40 somethings with babies in SE22...

....er if you want to talk to a wrong half of 40s omething dad with pre-school kids...then I'm your man

I agree it sounds like there is nothing new in this. You missed out the growing number of childfree couples too, both gay and straight. How is it changing? What IS a "household"? What's so specific about "these days" that's making change from say, ten years back? It just doesn't sound - new enough?

Women live alone because they want to? Men live alone because they can't find women to live with them?

Discuss.

But that is why so many more flats are needed and are being built because in this busy London life we live, we want to come back to some peace quiet and solitary time.

If you want a female couple for your female magazine then go find some.

And by the way what is a 'nice' womens magazine?

As distinct from what?

Just asking.

    • Hi  After a surprising split I find myself trying to furnish a home. If you gave anything that you don't want that may help I'd be so so so grateful if you could let me know please.  Thank you so much
    • Hallo As far as I know  info you have quoted is wrong.  You can phone for an appointment although I have always found it easier to do online. Go to their website for info on how to book appointments Any requests I have made have been reviewed and answered by a GP within 4 hours
    • Nadia did a great job tidying up my very very overgrown yard. (See the before and after photos). I live in New Zealand and my tenants said a neighbour has been complaining about the out of control ivy. Nadia was easy to contact so over WhatsApp, managed to liaise between me and my tenants. Her quote was reasonable for the amount of work that needed doing, and the end result is great! She sent photos throughout so I could track progress. Would highly recommend her to others.
    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
