mainstand
We've just been invaded by ants which appear to get access to the kitchen via a hole at the back of a cupboard (behind which is the mains water cut off switch - so can't be permanently sealed over). We've sprayed the area with a proprietary ant remover and it seems to have had some effect but crawling variety have been replaced by horrible (and quite large) flying versions. Any suggestions? kiera
The winged ants only survive in that form for a day or two. They want to fly away to set up home elsewhere - it's an interesting life cycle. I would suggest you allow them to fly out of the house. They always come out and fly off on a nice sunny day at this time of year. You could catch them, using a beaker and a piece of card, and release them outside or out of a window. You don't want ants to be living in your kitchen, but they are part of the natural, harmless and interesting wildlife in a garden. Sue
OMG it's not flying ant season is it?I HATE flying ants ever since some got caught in my hair when I was a child :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45429-antsflying-ants/#findComment-754911 Share on other sites
mainstand
Apologies for delay in responding. Kiera's prognosis has turned out to be spot-on. Most of the winged invaders had disappeared by the following morning and, apart from the odd cadaver behind cupboards and furniture, the invasion seems to have been repelled (he said hopefully!) Salsaboy
Heard something on the BBC today (so it must be true) that this year will be a bad year for flying ants. Lots of them appearing due to mild winter/spring. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45429-antsflying-ants/#findComment-755505 Share on other sites
